The first to know
Summary: Serena's reaction to having not been told that by Nate that he was thinking of getting back together with Blair. Set Season 2 (2x19-2x24).
After several months of my best friend, Blair pining over a guy, that was never going to show the commitment she wanted and needed and be worthy of dating her, it was an immerse surprise when she did a full circle and vied for her first love's affections. However it was not a welcome one.
But as I'm her best friend, I played my part dutifully; and cautionally welcomed the change of events, which would not lead to heartache (hopefully, if past feelings don't re-emerge). Although I was happy to play this part, first I would need to know why after all these years of caring, friendship, and love for these two, why one of them didn't tell me.
And that's why I just arriving at his house at this very moment, for no other reason but curiosity....Or at least that is what I told myself. After a few hard knocks at the door, the person I wanted to see and maybe confront (no, no not confront, politely ask) why he didn't tell me of the present development, arrived and opened the door.
Surprised: "Hi Serena what are you doing here?
"Thanks Nate, Glad I'm welcomed at your house nicely whenever you see me! Serena teased.
"You are Serena, you are, but that doesn't answer my question." Nate commented sincerely.
"Um...I was...Uh just wondering why you didn't tell me that you were about to be getting back together with Blair...That's all."
"Oh...Well...I...uh...Knew that Blair would tell you so...." Nate stammered nervously.
"So what you saying is...You chickened out of telling so let Blair tell me instead".
"No...That's not what I'm saying at all....Just that it was more convenient for Blair to tell you the news".
"Good news...Right?" Serena asked.
"Yeah, right".
"It's just that you seem a bit reluctant to admit it that's all." Serena elaborated.
"No, No...It's not that...It's that Vanessa doesn't know about it yet." Nate explained.
"WHAT! You are getting back to together with my best friend but not only did you not tell me but you haven't told your girlfriend Vanessa yet!" Serena yelled.
"Why are you shouting at me, Serena, Seriously why?"
"Because like most people, I don't like being messed around with?"
Perplexed "What are you are on about, I would never mess you around".
(Scoffing) Serena says "Well...That's what you are doing now...You said many times that you could tell me everything, but apparently not about the important things."
"I can tell anything and everything, Serena....And I do, Serena but as I said I knew that Blair would have liked to have told you....So that's why I said nothing."
Ashamed Serena laments "Oh...Ok then...I'm sorry...It's...You know how I get....I was just upset that about the thought I had about you not wanting to tell me."
"It's fine...I sorry I upset you, Serena...I didn't mean to....I would never want that."
"I know".
