Boggart

Remus Lupin loved his boggart. Quite an odd thing to feel, wasn't it? A Boggart- a creature that takes the form of what the person feels most…
He feared the moon. He feared its shiny, slick surface- the only glow in the middle of complete darkness. A far away lamp of a lost traveler in complete darkness, with utter confusion and mingled pain… he despised the moon. He hated it. Even when it was as thin as a twig he had a twinge of fear somewhere in his heart.
He feared the moon. He feared its howl whenever it was full of power- complete and round in perfection. So perfect that the monster inside him- the venom boiled in his blood, changing him… hurting him… killing him. He hated how he felt himself caged- felt himself helpless and unknown to the world around him, he hated the feeling of being an animal that no one would spare a seconds thought on before shooting silver at…
Yet, when he faced his boggart for the first time in his third year- it turned to the moon. He- unlike his classmates- didn't flinch as Sirius had, didn't go pale as James had, didn't scream as Peter did… didn't show any signs of fear or pain, an urge to howl or growl, any urge to feel helpless and hopeless… no… This was the first time after his bite he could stand in front of the gleaming orb without transforming. Without screaming or feeling his flesh rip apart, without his bones having the sensation of setting on fire, without hair coming out of his body as knives piercing him mercilessly- he didn't have that feeling of change in his body. He loved it. It made him feel… normal.
He remembered, later that night, he sneaked out of the dorms back to where the boggart was. With a flick of his wand he opened the cupboard where it was hiding and there came out the moon- gleaming in its pride and fear. He didn't flinch- he had that mingle of fear- yet he remained and stared at its complete shape. Stared at its shine and wondered how it caused him- and still did- so much pain. He loved it. He loved staring at his fear- he loved watching it without any harm being caused to him… he loved watching it glide around trying to get closer- trying to scare him…
He loved it- it made him feel normal, it made him forget the scar on his arm that started it all… it made him forget that he was different- that he wasn't a whole human… He loved it...
Remus Lupin loved his boggart- it made him feel normal.
