fake girlfriends.

"Absolutely not."

"Oh come on!" Taichi insisted, grinning broadly, "It'll look great on you!"

However, Taichi's enthusiasm had no effect whatsoever on Yamato, who stood glowering at him with his arms crossed over his chest in defiance. But Taichi would not relent, instead further flaunting the red silk dress he had bought.

"No, Taichi," the blond asserted as though he were talking to a stubborn dog, "I refuse."

Now the brunet looked rather crestfallen, pouting at Yamato with big brown eyes. "You've never said no to wearing women's clothing before," he whined.

At that, Yamato turned bright red, Taichi's angle inspiring embarrassment rather than the guilt he had hoped for. "Th-that's different!" he stammered, "That's just for you. You know I understand that you're not ready to 'come out' to your team, I do, but that doesn't mean I'm about to go out in public wearing a dress."

"But it's the annual soccer banquet," Taichi continued, pout still fully in tact, "And I want you to be there."

"Then I'll go as your best friend."

"Won't it be weird if I show up with my best friend but not my girlfriend?"

"So make Sora be your fake girlfriend and take the both of us. Or say your girlfriend broke up with you, or something. Why didn't you just tell them you were single?"

"I can't lie to my team, Yamato!" Taichi cried, shocked that Yamato would even suggest such a thing.

Yamato just stared at him.

"You know what I mean! Then I'd have to come up with reasons for not being able to go out with them for our dates, and they would try to set me up with girls, and-"

The blond groaned, throwing his hands up in frustration, "You can have a fake girlfriend instead of a fake girlfriend. Stop being difficult just because you want to see me in a red dress."

"With a slit up the leg," Taichi added quickly, but Yamato's condescendingly raised eyebrows told him that his addendum did not help his case. "Okay, but really, would you take your girlfriend and your best friend to an event like that?"

"Your whole family's going, so it's okay," Yamato shrugged, before his lips curved into a playful grin, "And I'll wear the dress after."

For a moment, Taichi opened his mouth to protest, but he caught that mischievous look in Yamato's eye and decided against pushing his luck. "Okay. Fine."

Needless to say, the night after the banquet, Taichi forgot all about his disappointment.

AN: SO... I hit a snag in my big AU Digimon fic that I've been trying to write forever and decided I should post something short and goofy instead. And, uh, this is what came out.
