Chapter 1

I am the most shy of us four girls. For years, I have done all of the behind the scenes work in my parents' home. They tell me I give joy to all in my acquaintance though I'm not quite sure how. Scarlet fever made me weak and I knew I would always remain at home. There was no home of my own in the future or the pitter-patter of little feet. I am Elizabeth March.

Chapter 2

After returning from war, my father went back to his work of helping the underprivileged. Four years after my sister Jo's wedding, my father brought Jeffrey Hamilton home for supper. Jeff was a former soldier who had lied about his age to serve his country. Homeless and jobless, my hospitable mother offered him a place to stay until he got back on his feet. He is stubborn but Marmee is more stubborn. Needless to say, he stayed.

Chapter 3

As the days passed, Jeff realized how special my parents are. He became involved with my father's work. As Jeff grew less hard, I found him less frightening to be around. However, when he asked permission to court me, I was utterly shocked. I am only shy, reserved Elizabeth March.

Chapter 4

Marmee constantly reminds me not shut any doors without seeing what's beyond at least once. I consented to see Jeff, even though it was rather difficult since we live in the same house. Walks in the garden are frequent. I found myself longing for us to be together. We discussed marriage, but were unsure of how to proceed. Yes love covers much, but I am not confident in my abilities.

Chapter 5

He asked me at Christmas. I told him I love him, but I was unsure. I snuck out to the kitchen to see Marmee. I needed a solution to my dilemmas. Come to find out, she and Father have been preparing for this day for months. Jeff and I will stay at home. Jeff continues to work with Father and me with Marmee. I run to my Jeff and give him a simple yes. He rejoiced and gave me my first kiss. I am a much loved Beth March.

Chapter 6

We were married in May. Our family was in attendance and Father married us. Everything was simple but elegant, just the way I wanted it. My sisters and I wept for joy as Jeff and I departed. I, Elizabeth March, have found love and happiness at last.

Epilogue

We are married until Jeff passed into eternity fifty-two years later. Our only child comforts me as I mourn. "You loved and were loved." With my final breath, I impart my last words of wisdom from my beloved Marmee. "No my dear, I am loved and I love for true love is not dependent on life." I am forever loved and cherished because I am Elizabeth March Hamilton.
