(Raven)

" Why cant I leave?" I ask the guard, currently at the door, barring my exit from the silence of the temple. He just watches me with a slight glare, something I have grown used to from the others in the building. He opened his mouth to answer, just to be interrupted by an all to familiar voice.

" Raven, please leave the guards be, they are just protecting you." Custos, one of the younger monks in training, replied while trying to move me away from the guard. I pulled away from him before asking the same question I have asked since I was small.

" Why must I be protected? Why must I be hidden away, from pacifists no less!" As my frustration from being pent up grows, so does my voice. Custos, used to this, pulls me towards my room, speaking to a monk on the way with hushed words in an unknown tongue. He soon leaves the monk to deal with me. The monk, a scowl on his face, shoves me in and reprimands me.

" You raised your voice, at a superior no less," with this he claps his hands together and I flinch, " you have less control than even a babe has, get you emotions under control." His voice never wavered from his even tone with me, his eyes only leaving mine when I knelt before him as he left. The curtain closed and I sighed, standing up. I walk over to the stone dais sit on it, looking into my mind-scape portal to activate it. Closing my eyes, two alternate me's appeared, to give me advice. The one in pink, louder than the other darker colored one, made herself clear what needed to be done. I needed to escape, to find somewhere where I am in control, where I don't have to follow orders.

( time skip~ sundown)

It was resting time, after the normal meal of bread and broth. The monks have gone to meditate and the guards were only at the main doors. I quietly step out of the sparse lit room and into the hall, the curtain swishing behind me. Walking quietly down the hall, my bare feet not making noise against the stone, I come up to an ornate wood door. Stepping into, I come across portals, each shimmering with their own colors. After looking them over, and ignoring fear's advice to turn back, I step into a portal shimmering blue and green. Smiling to myself, happy peeking through and whispering ' time to have some fun.'

I stumbled out, my feet scraping against a cold, dark stone, tall shining walls on either side of me. Pulling my cape closer around myself, I step out into the light and onto a paved street, teaming with People. They parted like water, wearing strange and colorful clothes. Walking and following the crowd, I come across a large building people similar in stature to me were entering. Looking around, I enter a smaller room filled with books, the shelves reaching the ceiling. Near where I entered, there was a long wood dais with strange things on top along with a person behind it. Looking up, the older man smiled and asked me something in another tongue, putting his book down. I frown, and reply in my own that I don't understand. He pauses for a moment before replying in the same tongue as I,

" Is this better? I wasn't expecting someone your age to speak Latin" I give a small smile in return and explained, him nodding along and questioning some parts. " so you left your home for America and cant even speak English?" he sounded astounded, but I nodded in reply. " well, Latin is unfortunately dead now and days, how about an English lesson?" He flipped a sign in the window and led me to the back, grabbing a few books on the way. After asking me if I read well, he had me read something called a dictionary. Used to the way the monks taught me, I quickly read it and learned quickly, moving onto other books. He left me for his shop once I had the basics, telling me to come to him if I needed help. Pulling a mirror from a small portal, I grab a few books and enter it, having more of myself to read them to help me learn. Soon a third appeared and helped as well, pushing up her glasses occasionally. After we had read them all, I left and went back to the front of the shop I now knew it as. Speaking in my new found language, I thanked him for his services and bowing. He waved me off and I left.

" Arella! Ravens gone!" Custo all but shouted, running into the queens chambers. The queen turned, a frightened look on her face.

" We must find her before her father. If he does," she paused, looking out the window, " None of us shall be safe. Go quickly, she is your duty." Custo knelt before quickly leaving to the portal room.
