Silently, Valkyrie watched her best friend Tanith walk slowly towards Ghastly. She knelt down in front of the stone figure and before she could say anything, broke down in tears. It made Valkyrie's heart break to see Tanith cry about her lost loved one. It was obvious Tanith has fallen for Ghastly as soon as their eyes first met. Fiddling with the seat belt, Valkyrie pressed her ear against the window of the Bentley, despite to hear what Tanith was saying. Her lips moved quickly, and then after a few minutes, she leaned forwards and kissed Ghastly's lips. For a second, Valkyrie though he would come alive again, and everything would be okay. Then she realised Ghastly wasn't coming back.

Sniffing, Tanith wiped salty tears from her cheek and sighed. "Ghastly, I did not coming here to cry, okay? I just want to say... I love you. I love your passion for making clothes. You're kind and brave and funny... I just can't believe that you're gone. Life won't be the same without you. Everyone feels that way- Skulduggery, Valkyrie, even China misses you like hell..." Tanith paused to stroke Ghastly's cool, stone face and smiled sadly. "...but no one wants you back as strongly as I do. I- I don't know what to do, when you're not with us. I feel... lost. Like there's a part of me that is missing. So... I love you. I believe you will be back with us again... whenever that may be." The tears started flowing again and with a sob, Tanith pressed her lips against Ghastly's desperately. Come back, come back. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out a single rose and, leaving it by Ghastly's side, walked away, back to the Bentley where Valkyrie was ready to give her a comforting hug.

Some time later...

Sighing Ghastly reached for his pen and started to write a small note.

Dear Tanith,

I'm not really sure if I should address you as Tanith anymore, but I decided to because I know, in my heart that there is a part of the real Tanith in you. And... I don't know if she/you will ever be completely back. But I am doing whatever I can to help, Tanith. I'm going to get that remnant out of you. Because I love you. It's as simple as that. Do you remember when I was trapped in stone, and you visited me? Well, I heard every single word you said. I wanted so much to kiss you back... but I couldn't. I fell in love with you as soon as I saw you as well. And it kills me to know how much time we wasted not together. I should have told you how I felt. I doubt you will ever find this letter, or I will ever find the real you. But there is a tiny flicker of hope inside me and that's what keeping me going in life. Skulduggery, Valkyrie... they are all my friends. But no one is as important to me as you are. Remember that.

Yours forever,

Ghastly

A single tear fell onto the paper; he wiped it, away leaving a smudge. Ghastly sighed, scrunching it up and throwing it into the bin. He had to go to see China, maybe look up the Remnants in some books. It was all he could think of.

After Ghastly left...

The house was dark and silent. A figure walked across the room, over to the bin. Tanith fished out the crumpled letter and her eyes flickered over the meaningful words. The remnant gasped, it could feel Tanith within. This wasn't good. "Go away!" It hissed. The emotions were bringing back Tanith. I'm not afraid to fight you. The remnants eyes widened in horror. Quickly, it ripped the letter to shreds and watched it flutter down to the floor. It laughed loudly, not noticing the tears that spilled down Tanith's cheeks.
