King River Butterfly looked down st his newborn daughter, Star Butterfly. His wife was resting after the labor, and River sat in the castle delivery room with the small child in his arms. He smiled and traced her small delicate face with his fingers.
"Star Butterfly." River said, looking down at the child. "My beautiful daughter. You're going to do extraordinary things." Star opened her sky blue eyes and looked up at her father.
"She's like a mirror image of you and Queen Moon." A nurse said, walking over to River and Star.
"Indeed." River replied, gazing at his daughter with pure love.
"My King, I apologize, but I must bathe the princess." The nurse said, opening her arms for Star. River glanced at Star for a moment. He kissed her on the forehead and passed the infant to the nurse. The nurse walked off to go give Star a gentle bath. River moved over to his wife's side.
"Moon pie?" River softly asked, gently taking his wife's hand. Moon stirred and slowly opened her eyes.
"River darling." The Queen weakly said, still aching from giving birth.
"Our daughter is beautiful." River said with a smile. "She's got fluffy tusks of golden hair and blue eyes." Moon closed her eyes and smiled.
"That's wonderful. What about her cheek symbols?" Moon asked, opening her eyes back up again.
"Dear, I think they're hearts." River replied.
"Hearts..." Moon said with a smile. River nodded and gave his wife a kiss on her forehead.
"You will be able to meet her when she returns from her bath." River said, watching the door. Moon nodded and tried to sit up straight, but strained herself, so she laid back down.
A few moments later, the nurse returned with the newborn Princess. She had a fresh lacey diaper on. The nurse passed the baby to the Queen.
"Hello, Star Butterfly." Moon said softly, looking at her child. Her eyes filled with tears, as this was the child she had nutured and talked to for 8 months. River moved over to his wife and child.
"Well, Moon pie. We did it. One big happy family." River said proudly. Moon nodded and fingered the golden tufts of hair the newborn had on her head.
"Star, I promise I will do everything in my power to protect you and prepare you for being a Queen." Moon said.
"M'lady, Mewni awaits their new princess." The nurse said. "The entire kingdom is gathered in the square below your balcony." River took Star from Moon as the Queen slowly got out of the bed.
"I must go get changed. Mewni cannot see their Queen in a hospital gown and messy hair." Moon said, walking towards the royal bedroom. River nodded.
"I'll go get one of those baby gowns we had made for Star." The King said, rushing off towards the nursery.
A few minutes later, the royal family regrouped just outside the door to the balcony. Queen Moon had brushed her blue hair, and it was now extremely wavy as it fell past her shoulders. She was wearing a fancy purple gown with light purple ruffles. Moon was now holding Star, who had a tiny tiara on her head and a light blue baby dress. Moon pushed open the door to the balcony.
"Citizens of Mewni!" Queen Moon exclaimed. The entire village went silent, some hoping to glance at the baby. "King River and I are very proud to announce..." Moon gently and carefully held up Star for all of Mewni to see. "Our daughter, Princess Star Butterfly." The entire village cheered her name.
"PRINCESS STAR BUTTERFLY!" All the cheering woke up the sleeping Princess, who looked around with wide eyes. Moon held the baby close. "Do not worry, Star. We will always be here for you."
