Four figures walked along the pathway through the woods, toward konoha village. The figure at the head of the group was a blonde; his hands cradled his head as he walked and his boistorous voice could be heard for miles. The next two in the march were a pair. One had jet black hair, and rolled his eyes as the annoyed expression on his face deepened every minute, the other had pink hair and spoke of pointless and unrelated things. Finally, the last in the ninja was a taller jonin with shining silver hair. His face was covered by a mask, but the shape of his face betrayed a smirk hidden beneath; his one shown eye was half-lidded in his happiness.
The balmy wind blew softly on the exposed part of Kakashi's face. Despite his pride in his squad, he felt somehow...empty. He was not dissapointed in the progress that Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura had made over the past few weeks; it was more like he was missing something. He focused his eye on the horizon, finding the blue peeking out between the leaves of the canopy. He sighed. Another muggy wind caressed his sweat laden skin.
A pair of light brown eyes followed the quartet.
A growl escaped the throat of the one who watched them.
"Kakashi..."
The group sat in a booth at the ramen restaurant. Sakura was picking and eating calmly at her ramen, Naruto was scarfing it down as quickly as he could, Sasuke had eaten his before anyone had noticed, and Kakashi read his book.
Naruto narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.
"Kakashi-Sensei," he said, causing Kakashi to lift his eyes from his reading "Why don't you have some ramen? They certainly got the flavoring just right today." Naruto said sweetly, his smile as big and phony as he could make it.
Kakashi smirked.
"Naruto, you will not trick me into taking off my mask...nice try though." Kakashi's eyes lowered back to the smut in his hands. Naruto's face fell, Sasuke's eyes rolled, and Sakura giggled.
A small-framed man sat in the opposite cornor of the restaurant, his coal-black eyes focused on the quartet in the booth. A large hat hid his features almost completely, allowing only him to see the world around him. A hand, obscured by a black fingerless glove, reached up and rubbed his chin. He wore no ninja headband. He reached up and pulled the hat further down over his face.
"Do you see them?" he rasped.
A smaller figure sat across from him. The shadows concealed the features of the the other. The only distinguishable feature was the ninja band wrapped tightly around the bicep. The smaller ninja nodded. It's head lowered and a slight grimace crossed it's face.
"Good." The taller rasped.
"When will I kill him?" The younger one asked quietly.
The taller one chuckled sadistically.
"You're just like your father, and I would know."
The smaller smirked evillyin the shadows.
As squad seven left the ramen joint, Kakashi could help but feel odd, like he was being watched. He squinted as he turned and inspected the scenery behind him.
"Kakashi-Sensei, are you coming?" Sakura's voice brought Kakashi back to earth. He turned and followed the three teens back towards their training grounds.
The two mysterious figures ran from branch to branch away from squad seven, retreating back to their own hut. The smaller ninja walked farthest into the room, while the taller stayed more towards the front. The smaller whimsically stroked a large sword braced securely against the wall.
The taller watched the smaller with a mixture of envy and pity. He walked quietly up beside the smaller, placing his hand on the shoulder.
"Your father was a great shinobi assassin. You have gone beyond what he could have ever expected of you. You will destroy his nemisis."
"Yes," the smaller ninja said. "I will destroy Hatake Kakashi for what he did to him."
