Disclaimer: Newsies is owned by Disney. Irving Berlin wrote "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas," that brilliant him.
Authoress Note: Newsies takes place during the heaviness of summer. But let's imagine for a moment, if we can, that it actually takes place during the Yuletide Season. (Thanks a gazillion for the Thought Sparker, Stressie…hope you don't mind that I've taken this idea and run with it in my own small little way. Everybody: go read Stress's stories. She's in my favorite authors!)
Denton was wandering the wintry white streets of Manhattan on his way back to his apartment. He had just bought lunch for all the newsboys at Tibby's to celebrate their newspaper article success and was feeling particularly high and happy. They were great kids, those newsboys. He sure would love to be their friend.
He thought for a moment about the one he really wanted to know better, and couldn't help but chuckle a little. He really was a sweet kid, that David. With a small sigh of sappiness, Denton started to hum, then sang these words, first singing softly, but then singing with more gusto at the end:
I'm
dreaming of a Davey Christmas.
He's a boy I'd like to know.
Oh my eyes would glisten
and I would listen,
When he asked me to take things slow.
I'm dreaming of a Davey Christmas
with every curl upon his head.
I pray his heart will be my own
and he'll accept the love I've shown.
With the end vibrato he swung his arm out into a bow, smacking a woman in a green hat with a chartreuse feather, who had happened to be walking by.
"Well, I never!" she said with a shocked glare and hurried off in the opposite direction.
Denton watched her walk away and smiled to himself, too moon-struck to care. He continued to hum as he headed home.
"with every curl upon his head…"

That's good ol' Denty for you...always the romantic. :-)
