Okay! So this is a story that I've been working out in my mind for a while, now. This is just the prologue, and I have a plan for the entire adventure. I really hope you enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I do not, nor have I ever owned anything from Final Fantasy. I only own Elsi. I have my own stories to write, anyway. This fanfiction is just for good ol' fashion fun!

Enjoy!

It was cold that night.

She didn't like chilly feel of the hallway tile on her five-year-old feet. The house was dark, as well.

She ran the familiar route to safety.

"Brother?" she called as she pounded her little fist on the door. "Big Brother, are you there?"

She heard the door creak and saw a teenage boy poke his head out. He glanced at her with dark eyes.

"Another nightmare, Elsi?" he questioned.

The girl gave a nod.

"This is the fourth night in a row," he sighed. "Why must you come to me about this?"

Elsi gave him a frightened look. Her brother sighed and picked her up.

"Let's get you back to bed," he suggested. "I'll tuck you in."

She giggled as he scooped her up in his arms.

"So, what was it, this time?" he questioned. "Was it a ghost?"

"No," she answered. "I dreamt that father turned into a monster," she explained. "I was so very frightened."

"It was just a dream, Elsi," he reasoned. "Father isn't going to turn into a monster. Besides, even if he did, you know that I would be there to protect you."

Elsi shook her head.

"No. You were gone. Father said you had left us."

He stopped.

"It was just a dream," he protested. "I... I would never leave you."

Both siblings were silent for the next few moments as he approached the door of her room. He walked in and set her gently on her bed and pulled the covers over her.

"There now, safe and sound." He grinned. "Isn't that much better than the cold hall?"

She looked back to him.

"Brother, would you ever leave?"

He was taken aback by the question.

"Why would you ever ask such a thing?" he protested.

"Would you?"

"Now Elsi, that is rediculous!"

"Father said you would soon leave us."

He gave an intake of air in surprise. Elsi wasn't done, yet.

"You are going to leave," the dissappointment in her tone couldn't be hidden. "I knew you would."

He said nothing.

"Would you take me with you?"

He shook his head.

"Why would you want to go anywhere with this failure of a brother that you have?"

"I don't want to stay here," she protested. "Father is scaring me. Promise that, when you leave, you'll take me with you."

He didn't respond.

"I'll consider it." His tone was dry.

Even so, this seemed to offer the little girl some form of comfort to the girl as she smiled at him.

"In the meentime, get some sleep," he ordered. "You need rest."

She nodded and snuggled into her blankets.

"Good night brother."

"Good night Elsi."

It wasn't until the next morning that everything changed.
