Eva sighed and looked at the man in front of her. "Ah, Kenzo…"
"Eva…" he whispered back, sending shivers up her back.
"I…" she looked down for a moment. "I'm so sorry for trying to turn you in to the police…"
He put a finger under her chin and lifted her head. "Eva, I'm sorry too… for the grief that I've caused you…"
"Oh, Kenzo, that wasn't your fault… I know that now…"
"Eva…" he whispered.

Their slightly tilted heads moved in, lips parted…

Both opened their eyes, startled, and looked to the other side of the room. Lunge was sitting in a chair, one hand under his chin in a fist, holding his head up, the other poised to tap on the table next to him. He saw them looking at him and nodded in greeting.
"Oh," he said, "don't mind me. This is for…" he considered his hand, "research purposes. Please continue where you left off."
They stared at him.
