Independence Day
It was early morning, and then a little boy with slate colored hair was awakened by an out raged voice. He opened his revealing crimson orbs. He tried to sleep again but rushed out when he heard,
'Smack' and 'Thud' The little boy rushed out of bed and out of his room.
"Mama!"
"Kai!" the little boy ran over to his fallen mother.
" I am all right little one. Don't worry."
" But Mama…what about…"
" Oh it's nothing." She smiled as she looked down at her son lovingly. He couldn't help but look at the bruise forming on her cheek.
(Well She Seemed All Right By Dawns Early Light
Though She Looked A Little Worried And Week
She Tried To Pretend He Wasn't Drinkin' Again
But Daddy Left The Proof On Her Cheek)
She looked down at her eight-year-old son.
"Do you know what day it is?" Kai shook his head.
"It is the fourth of July."
"Really?"
" Yeah. The fair is in town. You can go if you want." Kai smiled.
"Can I! Mama?" She laughed and said, "Of course. You better hurry it's starting." The boy rushed out of the door to the fair not far from their house.
(And I was only eight years Old That Summer
And I Always Seemed To Be In The Way
So I Took Myself Down To The Fair In Town
On Independence Day)
As the little boy made his way around he heard people talking about his father,
(Well Word Gets Around In A Small Small Town
They Said He Was A Dangerous Man)
He also heard people talking about his mother,
(But Mama Was Proud And She Stood Her Ground
She Knew She Was On The Losin' End)
He was getting disturbed as they kept sideways glancing at Kai as they continued to whisper but did nothing about their problem.
(Some Folks Whispered And Some Folks Talked
But Everybody Looked The Other Way
And When Time Ran Out There Was No One About)
Kai was getting worried so he started to run home.
(On Independence Day, Let Freedom Ring Let The White Dove Sing
Let The Whole World Know That Today Is A Day Of Reckoning
Let The Week Be Strong Let The Right Be Wrong
Roll The Stone Away Let The Guilty Pay It's Independence Day)
When Kai got to his house he gasped at what he saw,
(Well She Lit Up The Sky That Fourth Of July
By The Time That The Firemen Come)
Kai looked at all the Firemen then cast a worried glance at his house.
"MAMA!" He tried to run but a fireman held him back.
(They Just Put Out The Flames And Took Down Some Names
And Sent Me To The County Home)
Kai was trying to fight them to get away from them to get his mother.
"MOM! NO WAIT! GET MY MOTHER!"
" I am sorry son, there is nothing we can do for her." Kai looked up at him and cried into his chest. They took him and loaded him up in a car and took him to where he'd be safe and not on the streets. Kai crying all the way.
"Mom…"
(Now I Ain't Sayin' It's Right Or It's Wrong
But Maybe Its The Only Way
Talk About Your Revolution
It's Independence Day Let Freedom Ring Let The White Dove Sing
Let The Whole World Know That Today Is A Day Of Reckoning
Let The Week Be Strong Let The Right Be Wrong
Roll The Stone Away Let The Guilty Pay It's Independence Day
Roll The Stone Away
It's Independence Day)
