All You Need Is A Little Trust

Trust.
What is trust?
Why trust?
Who to trust?
Trust.
Since young, I've never known trust. Maybe for a period of time I did, but that was a long time ago. A really long time ago. When I was young - maybe four or five - I often wondered why I am hated, what I did to deserve such cold treatment. Nobody gave any reason, just cold glares and hurtful words. I used to try to act like they didn't bother me when they did. I used to give them happy smiles in reply to their unwarranted hatred.
Used to.
Some of the villagers would just glare and talk behind my back, I know. Those were the better treatment. The worse ones included throwing things at me and hate mail. I used to take them all in my stride.
Again, used to.
I knew trust before something happened to me when I was seven.
It was night and I was walking home when it happened. I was minding my own business when a couple of men grabbed me and pulled me into an alley. There, several other men started beating me up with broken wood and metal pipes. During the time they were hitting me, I saw two jounins pass by. They saw, I knew, but they didn't say anything or stop. Instead, they smirked. I fainted after that.
The next morning, when I woke up, the streets were already busy. It was crowded but no one stopped to help. "Is that how it is then?" I remembered thinking to myself. I received no help, no sympathy from the very people whom I'm willing to trade my life for. From that time, I stopped trusting. Trust was erased from my dictionary. I trained hard everyday, so that I can leave this wretched place. The only reason I became a leaf-nin was so that I'll get to leave this village legally more often.
One problem though. Becoming a leaf-nin, I'll have to start from a genin and I'll have a genin team. Having a genin team meant teamwork and teamwork meant trust.
Trust.
Che. I don't need trust. It's a liability. Come to think of it, I don't need a team either.
A trip to the Hokage's office is in order.
