"Crash and burn." she answered and he just knew her to be right.
For the first eighteen years or so of his life, Sam struggled. Fighting for something more. Wishing there was more to life than hustling and hunting. So he studied hard and one day found himself in college. Everything he ever dreamed was within his reach. Normalcy, friends, a regular residence.
But he didn't know how to live that way. A hunter's life was all he knew. And like he told Dean once, he never really fit in, until Jess came along.
She tried to teach him not worry so much, telling him a bad grade was mandatory once in a while to remind yourself that you're only human. And that cutting class now and then to see a movie or sleep a little more was good for the spirit. She taught him life was meant to be lived. And it was only with Jess, Sam learned the full meaning of Carpe Diem.
Without her, he had already crashed. But he would fight not to get burnt.
A/N: Supernatural obviously doesn't belong to me. Also, this is inspired by Pilot (where the dialogue is from)and Devil's Trap. And I know saying it is inspired by DT is a bit of a stretch but it kind of makes sense in my mind.
