Five-year-old Harry Potter tried to get to sleep in his tiny cupboard as the lightning and thunder boomed outside. Harry was very hungry, as he'd been sent to his cupboard without dinner for accidentally turning the neighbor's dog's fur blue. He didn't know how he did it, but he also didn't know how his hair grew back, or how Aunt Petunia's prize apple pie had suddenly turned to a prize dung pie.
He could hear his Aunt Petunia singing to his cousin, Dudley. As big as Dudley was, and tough as he claimed to be, he was still afraid of the dark. Sadly for him, the power went out and it was darker than night. Harry couldn't help grinning as he remembered Dudley running out of the bathroom with his pants around his ankles screaming, "Where'd the lights go? Where's the lights go?"
But then Harry's laughter turned to tears as he remembered Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon running to make him feel better as Harry realized that he'd never have parents to help him if he got scared.
Harry could still remember his parents, but it was a lot fuzzier than it was a year ago. He figured that in about a year, he wouldn't be able to remember them at all. That thought scared him because he felt that his memory of his parents was the only thing that protected him from Uncle Vernon when his uncle got mad.
Of course, he did still remember them. He still remembered his dad's messy black hair, his mom's great red hair. He remembered his dad's glasses and long thin nose, and his mom's geat green eyes and nice smile. His biggest memory of them was when he was a baby, and they were scared for some reason. He remembered his mom sobbing, and his dad being very pale. He also remembered another man, one who he could only remember as being very dark. And then there was a great flash of green light.
And then he remembered nothing, which is what those memories would be in a few years. Of course, he still dreamed about them. Those dreams always made him feel better.
Harry started to smile, and went to sleep, knowing that he would always see him in his dreams.
