My hour of need
I was in pain, dying. The rain was so dense, my already blurry vision was even worse. It was freezing every inch of my body and was coming down so hard, that it felt like little daggers stabbing me. The pain was excruciating, as if the Goddesses wanted me to die a slow and painful death. I wouldn't be surprised if they did, after all that I'd done...
My ears were aching; I was almost deaf after the roaring of thunder. My head span and I felt as if I was flying. It was only Link using a spin attack. I could tell he'd just killed a Bulbin due to the faint death cries, which seemed a mile away although it was only a few centimetres. My fingers were so numb; I didn't know how long I could grasp Link's soaking fur for. The pain was increasing with every gasp of breath I took; I felt my lungs decrease in size. If this is what dying felt like, I was glad I only had to go through it once.
Because of the torrential weather, the civilians of Castle Town were under shelter. How I knew this was because I couldn't feel the rain when they screamed. When I could feel the rain was when Link was on the move. I was choking on my breaths, which were getting quicker and raspier by the minute. I couldn't see at all now and I could only just hear. I could hear a voice, sounding very far off in the distance. It was saying 'foul beast, get out' and Link did a back flip. I used up all my strength clinging on for dear life, which was stupid because I was going to die anyway. There was more speaking going on, and it sounded so faint I could only make out a few words. From the few I could hear, I could tell the person wanted to know what I needed. I told her 'Zelda... I... need.... Zelda...' that was all I could say before passing out...
I awoke to find myself on the floor with Link and Zelda huddled around me. Zelda was holding my numb hand and Link was whispering softly.
'Princess...' I murmured, finding it hard to breathe. 'Please... remove the curse... on this one. Link... He's the one you need to save... Hyrule...'
A few minuets later Zelda spoke 'I am sorry. The magic that binds him isn't the same as when he's in Twilight. The only way to remove this curse is to find the blade of evil's bane, the Master sword. It lies within the sacred grove, which can be entered through North Faron woods.'
'Link... you can... get there on your own... can't you? There's... no hope for me... And Zelda... as my final request, can... you tell Link... where to find the mirror of Twilight?' Zelda let out a little gasp. If my vision wasn't so fazed, I would have been able to see her eyes widen. 'Midna, I know who and what you are now. Despite your mortal injuries you act in our stead. Heed this, I pass it unto you.'
My vision suddenly became clear again and I could see that Zelda was glowing. I was too. I realised that she was sacrificing herself for me so I yelled 'Link! Stop her!' but it was too late. I was back to my old self. And Zelda was gone. I hopped back onto Link and he slowly walked away, his vision not leaving the spot where Zelda once was. I stared at my hand which had been pale white only minutes ago, but was now a blackish green.
I muttered to myself 'Zelda, I took all you had to give. But I didn't want it.'
I hope you who are reading this understand why I am now a changed person. It is because of what happened on that fatal night, when I nearly died. How kind Zelda and Link were, saving me, when I had been so dreadful to them the day we met. I'm glad that I'm changed because now I feel different for Link. He is my eternal lover and a faithful companion. I feel safe and secure within the arms of someone who truly cares. And I will fight by his side until the end, to repay him for the deed that saved my life.
