A/N: Don't worry, King of the Street is still being written. I just had this idea pop in my head and I thought it would be a good test of my romance writing skills. Tell me how I did. Thanks and love you all.
Normally, Annabeth goes to the beach to read a book and enjoy the weather, not meet dudes. Today was not going to follow that pattern. Her first clue was the shouting that was drawing near to her usually secluded spot on the beach. It wasn't that it was hidden, it was just that there was not nearly as much space for activities than there was farther down the beach.
Annabeth allowed herself a small growl to escape her lips before calming herself. The voices seemed to all belong to men and they seemed to not care that they were all talking at the same time. Annabeth did her best to try and ignore the voices and return her attention to her book. Soon enough, she could begin to hear what was being said.
"Toss here Percy!"
"Okay!"
"Now to me!"
"Gotcha!"
"Hey Percy, go long."
"Alright, hey wait that's way over my head, oh shit, HEY LOOK OUT!"
Annabeth looked up to see something red and flat heading right for her. She tried to raise her book in time to block in the incoming projectile, but she was a second too slow. The frisbee collided with her forehead and she fell off her beach chair and into the sand.
Spots started appearing in her vision as she laid in the sand. She could faintly hear shouting and approaching feet.
"Oh gods, is she dead?"
"She's not dead you idiot, probably just a little dazed."
Annabeth tried to sit up, but a pair of strong hands stopped her.
"Woah, don't try to move yet, you need to let you body recover. Also, sorry about that, total accident."
"Asshole's," was all Annabeth could say.
"Yeah, we really are." The same voice was talking to her. It was obviously male, a tenor, but certain words were said with more of a bass inflection. Annabeth couldn't help but enjoy listening to the voice say words.
"Alright, do you think you can sit up?"
"I think so."
Annabeth began to push herself up, but once again felt the hands. This time they were on her back, supporting her a she rose from the sand. Once she was sat in an upright position did Annabeth begin to open her eyes. The first thing she saw were the most beautiful sea-green eyes she had ever seen. They were filled with worry and concern. She broadened her view to take in his whole face. He was tan. He had a strong jaw and high cheekbones. His nose was a little crooked, but it didn't detract from his over all looks. He had a scar cutting through his left eyebrow, again increasing his attractiveness. Finally, his hair seemed to have a blown back look, like the ones Annabeth saw surfers and boaters sport after getting back on land.
"Are you okay." He asked.
"I think so, my head still hurts a little, but it's nothing I can't handle."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Just help me stand."
"Okay then."
Annabeth gave him her arm and began to stand. As she did, her eyes passed over his body.
Oh. My. Gods.
He was fit to say the least. The rest of his body was as tan as his face. He was in shape with the body of someone who was active, but not like those body builders who only spend their days at the gym and then competing with other guys like that to see who can lift the most. Once Annabeth was solidly on her own two feet did the man let go. She began to wobble, but she was able to catch herself. He had reflexively reached out to catch her.
"Well, it looks like you are all better, other than that epic bruise on your forehead."
"Yeah, I think that's going to be there for a while."
"I'm sorry again, I missed the catch and you got to suffer for it. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"
"In fact, there is, I want an ice cream and you get to pay."
"Is that all!?"
"I can think of more if you want."
"No, no, that look in your eye makes my wallet cringe."
"Ha, very funny. Before we go, what's your name?"
"Percy. Percy Jackson."
"Nice to meet you Percy, I'm Annabeth Chase."
"That's a really pretty name."
"Well don't wear it out, now let's get that ice cream."
"Sure, let me just tell my friends."
Percy ran over to where his friends were tossing the frisbee. This time with more care. Annabeth couldn't help but glance at his retreating derriere. Hate to see him leave, but love to watch him go.
Percy's friends began laughing and glancing her way, Percy was red in the face. He began to hurry back to her, but this time her didn't run. It was a forced walk that made him look like he needed to use the bathroom. Annabeth hid a smile behind her hand as Percy got closer.
"Got everything settled with the boys?"
"Yea, they like to joke. A lot."
"Well, let me grab my things and we can go."
Thankfully the chair stayed where it was, so all Annabeth had was her book and sunglasses. After finding her lost page and putting on her sunglasses, Annabeth walked to Percy and continued on. Percy easily matched her pace and they walked down to beach. Not with out a final wolf whistle from Percy's friends.
"Wow, your friends are weird. I mean who wolf whistles anymore. That's so last century."
"Like I said, they joke."
They walk in slightly awkward silence until they reached the ice cream stand. The smiling face of the owner appeared from behind the counter.
"Ah, hello, what can I get for the lovely couple."
"Oh, um, well, we aren't actually… uh, dating." Said Percy.
"That's too bad, you two look perfect together."
"I sort of bonked her on the head with a frisbee and this is my making it up to her."
"Well it sounds like a love story to me, but enough teasing. What would you like?"
Annabeth and Percy scanned the menu on the side of the stand.
"I'll get a double scoop of Cookie's 'n' Cream in a waffle cone." Said Percy.
"I'll have a double of Mint Chocolate also in a waffle cone." Said Annabeth
"Coming up, that'll be 5 dollars."
Percy handed the man cash then placed three more in the tip jar. Annabeth gave Percy an impressed look. She found through experience that people who tipped were far and few in between. The man handed them their orders and the two found a table to sit at. After a few moments of licking, and in Percy's case, biting, Annabeth had a question.
"So, Percy, what do you do. Do you work or are going to school?"
"I'm currently doing a little of both. I'm studying marine biology and working for my dad."
"And what do you do for your dad."
"Mostly research, his company does shipping, and I help with the research to shrink the carbon footprint of his boats."
"Do I know his company?"
"Probably, it's called Big Three Shipping."
"Wait, like Big Three Air and Ground!?"
"Yep, my dad's one third of the largest shipping conglomerate in the world."
"Holy shit."
"Yeah, that's what most people say."
"So, you're like, rich or whatever."
"Nah, sure my dad has money, but none of it's mine. It was a sort of agreement we had. I go to school and he covers the expenses, but that's it. So, I work for him and make a paycheck like everybody else."
"That's amazing."
"I guess, but what about you. What do you do."
"I am also in school, studying architecture."
"Really, I've worked with a few architects for some offshore projects. You must be damn smart to want to study that."
"Um, yeah I guess."
"Do you work?"
"Sort of, I'm interning with a company out of New York. It's called Athena's Architecture."
"No way. That's the company I worked with!"
"Really!"
"Yeah, I could totally put in a good word for you with Athena. She and my dad don't really get along, but that shouldn't make a difference."
"You would really do that?"
"For sure, if you get a job there we might be able to work together!"
"Yeah, wow. Thanks Percy."
"It's no problem, but there is just one thing."
"Oh, was hitting me with your frisbee not enough?"
"No, no, If I talk to Athena, I wan you to go on a date with me."
"WHAT!"
"Hold on, if it makes you feel better, I'll still put in the word, but I thought it could be a bonus for both of us."
"How is it a bonus for me."
"Because the dates with me."
"Ha, fine. I'll go on a date with you Percy Jackson."
"Awesome."
"There is one last thing I want from you though."
"And what would that be."
Annabeth dropped what was left of her cone, Percy had already finished his, and grabbed Percy by the shoulders. She crashed her lips on to his and the taste of Cookie's 'n' Cream and Mint Chocolate mixed together. It was delicious.
