It's funny what you can end up writing after a late night babysitting watching Dead Man's Chest on TV :)
Hope you enjoy it!
Disclaimer: I don't own any part of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Jack Sparrow was a good man. Jack Sparrow was a man she could have loved. Once.
Jack Sparrow was a man she had kissed backing him up against the mast without pausing for breath as their lips and bodies pressed together amidst the wreckage of his ship. They kissed and drew in the scent of one another as the Kraken lurked and their lives hung in the balance as she attached his wrist to the mast with steel handcuffs and left him there to die.
Jack Sparrow was a good man after all and a captain should always go down with his ship. She had saved all their lives by forfeiting his.
But still, she had kissed a man and condemned him to death and she sits in the boat, unable to meet Will's eyes and with the taste of a dead man's lips on hers. With the memory of his face when he realised her betrayal etched into her memory, burning behind her eyes. The resignation. The despair. And the hint of pride, of recognition of a similar soul.
"We're alike, you and I." he had once said and she had agreed. But for the wrong reason, said with integrity that was cast away when staring death in the face. They are alike, her and Jack. Both ruthless, both pursuing their own interests. Both drawn towards each other. Both able to condemn another to save themselves.
What was it Jack had murmured before she turned her back?
"Pirates."
She thinks of what she's done. To Will. To the crew. She's killed a man, deprived a crew of their captain and cheated her fiancée.
She's killed a man.
She takes a mug and raises it to the memory of Captain Jack, witty Jack, crazy Jack, brilliant Jack, impossible Jack.
"He was a good man." she says and drains her drink.
And he was. So when Calypso asks if she would go to the ends of the earth to get him back, her answer his simple. Of course she will. Because she owes him and his blood is on her hands. Because he could have left them to die for him but didn't. Because he came back.
Because, despite all, Jack Sparrow was a good man.
Hope you enjoyed it, please leave a review if you have a moment.
