A/N: I'm not exactly used to writing brOTP fics, so I hope this suffices... This is part of my Baby Steps project for the Diversity Writing Challenge from the No. 6 Fanfiction Challenges forum. Love you guys. This piece is for the prompt A76: write about a friendship that is not your brOTP. I don't really have a brOTP for No. 6, but this is what I came up with. I could see Dogkeeper being kinda friendly with Karan after the walls go down.

Karan giggled. "Slow down, Inukashi! It's not going to run away if you don't eat it quickly."

Dogkeeper paused, half a piece of cherry cake shoved in her mouth. She scowled at Shion's mother and grunted, chewing the sweet pastry. Ever since the walls had come down, Inukashi had spent a lot of time in Karan's bakery. What could she say? She had a sweet tooth... When her mouth was nearly empty, she grumbled, "Don't mock me, woman."

Karan just shook her head, smiling. For some reason, Dogkeeper's attitude never bothered her. Perhaps she was too kind-hearted. Or maybe...she looked at Inukashi like the daughter she never had. Dogkeeper began to sweat. She'd never experienced having a human mother, and she wasn't sure it was something she wanted to try.

Karan brought out a tray of cinnamon rolls, making Inukashi's mouth water. Her stomach grumbled in protest, but she cast common sense aside, picking up one of the sticky rolls and stuffing it between her sharp teeth.

The bell of the front door rang, but Inukashi was too distracted with cinnamon and icing to look up. Until she heard a chuckle. She looked back to see Nezumi and Shion enter the shop. "Hi Mum," Shion beamed happily. Then he noticed Dogkeeper with sugar all over her face. "Ah, nice to see you again, Dogkeeper. Everything good today?"

Dogkeeper scowled, turning away from them. Nezumi approached her, reaching for one of her cinnamon rolls. Inukashi growled through the roll in her mouth, swatting at him, nearly stabbing him with a fork. He only laughed. "How do you expect to pay for the mess you're making?" he questioned.

She stopped mid-swallow. She hadn't thought about that. Karan had never made her pay in the past, but she couldn't be expected to eat free forever...

Karan waved a hand at Nezumi, smiling brightly. "She doesn't have to worry about payment. I simply enjoy her company. Plus she's the best taste tester I've ever had."

Nezumi mocked surprise. "You enjoy Mutt's company?"

Inukashi swatted at him again. Karan brought him a plain donut, his favorite, and it hushed him from taunting Dogkeeper further. Karan gave Inukashi a light squeeze before going to the back, and Inukashi froze. She looked at the two men. Nezumi was trying not to laugh past the fried flour in his mouth, and Shion looked elated. Dogkeeper's face was hot enough to boil water.
