"That stupid, stupid-"

SWISH

"Muggle hating-"

SMACK

"JERK!"

Lily Evans watched as the small white ball she had propelled into outer space soared towards the lake. She sighed with defeat and let the wooden bat slide out of her fingers. Baseball had always been her favorite sport- even though it was so American- and stress reliever. Especially, when big headed blonde boys named Malfoy opened their big mouths.

"I HATE HIM!" Lily screamed pulling out clumps of innocent grass.

"Evans?"

Lily sighed. If there was one person she couldn't stand more than Malfoy…

"What, Potter?"

James Potter leaned awkwardly against the tree she sat under. He raised an eyebrow at the enraged redhead that was now burying her face in her arms.

"You alright?"

"Yea, I'm fine," she admitted with a sad smile.

James plunked himself down next to her and looked at the bat with bewilderment. It looked like a Chaser's bat, only smaller.

"What's this? A Muggle way to get rid of guys like Sirius?"

Lily laughed, "No, that's what pepper spray is for. This is a baseball bat. For baseball."

"Base-ball? Balls and bases? Where does the bat come in?" asked James, looking more confused than ever.

Lily started tearing up with laughter at James's stupidity.

"It's a Muggle sport. My favorite actually. Let me show you."

She flipped her hair out of her face and gracefully tossed the ball in the air. Her arms turned back without effort and swung out to meet the ball with a CRACK! The little ball arched through the air and headed for the lake just as the one before it.

Lily turned back around to see James gaping at her in awe.

"Lily…that…was incredible, can I ask you something?"

Her smile dropped. Here it comes, she thought, they couldn't go a full 10 minutes without Potter asking her out. One of these days he would just have to learn that there wasn't a chance on earth that-

"Will you try out for the Quidditch team?"

Lily blinked at him.

"We could always use you as Beater," James explained and started walking away, leaving Lily with her mouth hanging open.
