Ivypool was the most beautiful cat in the world. I had wanted to partner with her from the second I saw her, but I knew it was hopeless. She was Dovewing's sister, and Dovewing would never let me get close to her. I also knew that Ivypool would resent me for my powers. She always wanted to be special, and I had it handed to me.
Over the days, I got the courage to talk to her. It took a lot to be willing to talk to someone you were interested in. Initially she shunned me, ignoring me and seeming to hate me. I knew why. I wished she could see past me outside and let me talk to her for real. Finally, I got an idea. "Ivypool, you trained in the Dark Forest, right? Did you ever meet Tigerstar?"
She turned to me suspiciously. "Yeah. Just once. He didn't seem to like me."
"That's so cool! I mean, he's bad, but villains can be cool. They just aren't good." After I continued showing her how amazing she was, I showed her a bit about how special she was to me. It could be anything from me complimenting her catch to me full-out telling her she was amazing. She slowly opened up to me, and I loved her more and more.
It took a while for me to convince Dovewing that I was an acceptable mate for her sister. Of course, I could've tried to partner with Ivypool without Dovewing's permission, but there was no way Ivypool would agree. I didn't know what Dovepool had against me. It wasn't like I was a terrible cat. I tried my best to be good. It was revealed to me later that she was just protective of her sister, but it was frustrating until then.
Once Dovewing finally gave me her blessing, I started trying harder and harder to convince Ivypool that I would be a good mate. I didn't want to just be friends with her. I gave her all of the feathers I got, hoping to show her that I cared more about her than myself. I made sure she got the best parts of the prey. I helped her collect moss for her nest while mine slowly went bare. She seemed to appreciate my kindness, but she seemed to think of me as just a friend.
Finally, I went up to her. "Ivypool, I have to ask you something. We've been friends for a while now, and I really care about you. You've probably noticed, but I want to be more than friends," I told her bashfully.
"Well, that's a lot. I mean, sure, but we can't be full-out mates yet. I just won't partner with anyone else." I nodded excitedly. Anything was better than nothing.
It was three moons ago that I asked her to be my mate. It was a moon and a half ago that she agreed. My heart stopped while I waited for her response, and I shook with joy when she agreed. Now I was staring at our kits with almost as much love as I stared at her. They were all lovely, and I knew they would grow up well. They would certainly be taught well by their mother, and they would all be gorgeous. After all, their mother was the most beautiful cat in the world.
