It was an ordinary Saturday in Japan. The sun was out and it was relatively warm. Rei and Minako were heading towards Makoto's apartment when, suddenly a voice screamed.
"No! This can't be real! NO!!" someone shouted close by.
"Rei, what was that?" Minako asked urgently.
"Minako, I have no clue. Come on, lets go!" Rei responded grabbing Minako and running to the source of the screaming.
"NO, they can't be…MOM, DAD!" The person screamed.
Minako's eyes widened and then she looked at Rei, whose eyes to were open wide. Minako mouthed, "Makoto!"
Rei nodded her head up and down. "Makoto!"
Makoto was screaming and sobbing when Rei and Minako rounded the corner to Makoto's apartment building.
"Makoto, what's wrong?" Minako asked with concern.
Makoto kept crying and wailing, "Mom, dad!"
Rei called Usagi.
"Hello?" Usagi asked.
"Usagi it is Rea, something has gone wrong with Makoto!" Rei exclaimed.
Usagi's voice was filled with concern. "What is wrong. Tell me Rei!"
"We're not sure. She keeps screaming mom and dad over and over. Come quick!" Rei said.
"Gotcha!" Usagi said then hung up the phone.
"Makoto what is wrong?" Minako asked for what seemed to be the millionth time.
"Minako…" Rei said hesitant. "You don't think…"
Minako's eyes widened with shock and disbelief.
Rei then kneeled next to Makoto on the soft grass, "Makoto, did something happen to your parents?"
Makoto shook with hurt and Rei and Minako put their arms around her to stop her.
Makoto's eyes were blurred with tears as she looked at Rei's face and whispered, "Yes."
Right then Usagi ran around the corner and panted, "Makoto!"
Rei and Minako gave Usagi a look that they hoped meant, something is wrong!
Usagi kneeled, too, but right in front of Makoto.
"Makoto what is wrong?" Usagi asked looking at Makoto.
Makoto looked at Usagi and said, "They…they are dead."
Then she sobbed again, this time on Usagi's shoulder.
Minako, Rei and Usagi looked at each other, wide eyed and mouth agape.
Before she could help it, Minako asked, "how?"
Rei
gave Minako a silencing look and then whispered, "Give her time,
Minako!"
They spent the afternoon consoling Makoto, they
kept asking what had happened and every Makoto would start crying
again and again.
Soon they were all in Makoto's family apartment, where Makoto went to sleep.
While she slept, Usagi, Rei and Minako waited in the small apartment.
"What could have happened?" Usagi asked.
"Usagi…" Rei said, but she was not in the mood for her usual fighting.
"Hey, guys look at her answering machine! There is a message." Minako said.
"Should we play it?" rei asked.
"It might tell us what is happening." Usagi said. "Lets."
Minako pressed the button and the message came on,
"Makoto, since you left there have been many drastic changes. I hate to tell you this, but your parents have both passed. We couldn't save them. The plane crash had done much more to them then we saw. We are so very sorry."
Everyone looked at each other as the message ended. Then a cry came from the other room, it was Makoto.
"I didn't even get to say goodbye."
