The cold air whipped through the small snowy Mann Co. town. A single sign hung limp in the breeze, one side unhinged. The Heavy's large hand lifted the sign, placing it back on its hing out of respect for his employer. His deep eyes gazed at the large machine in the distance. After a three day battle with the Blu team a large mechanical transport had worked it's way up the hill. Due to the strange nature of the machine the few remaining men of the Red and Blu teams had agreed to a stalemate (the others were called to different locations).
After three days nothing had happened. The Blus stayed on their side and the Reds on theirs. Neither knew whether to resume fighting or to find out what it was. However Heavy was getting tired of waiting. Suddenly, it seemed obvious what should be done.
Heavy marched forward, a man on a mission. He nodded to the Red Scout in front of him, indicating that it was time for action. The scout, knowing the nature of the gesture, smirked, nodded, and followed his behemoth of a friend.
The Red Engineer, who had been playing his guitar at the time noticed his teammates walking and knew, somehow, that the time for action was at hand. Getting up from his box,he grabbed two shotguns, cocked them, and followed his allies.
Inside a small shack on Blu's side of the town. The Blu soldier and Demoman played poker whilst drinking some beer from the Demoman's stash. As the soldier drew the brown bottle to his lips, the lights flickered once before the door was kicked open. Light poured in, blinding the Demoman for a moment. He raised his hand to protect his good eye when suddenly he noticed the remaining mercenaries of Red team standing outside the shack appearing very hostile.
Slowly after moment of awkward, intense silence, the Heavy flipped the gun once and tossed it to the Demoman, who's face changed from that of disgust to an excited smile.
Both Blu members instantly jumped up from their chairs and followed the Red members, the Demoman cocking his gun. As they passed by his shack. The Blu Medic noticed his allies in league with the Reds. Knowing that something was going to happen, the crazed doctor stroked his beloved bird once and then followed the mixed group.
As they neared the strange transport they suddenly stopped. awaiting whatever was inside to emerge. Suddenly, the large front of the machine opened, revealing mechanical versions of the mercenaries themselves.
After an initial spark, they all started to come alive. The robots slowly straightened up, their mechanical bodies shaking, and their lifeless eyes glowing Blue.
It was at that moment that the Heavy decided it was time to charge. Screaming at the top of his lungs he pulled the shotgun from his back and, with the rest of the mercenaries, he charged at the robotic menace.
That day marked the beginning of the war between Mann and Machine. Many thousands of mercenaries joined the battle that day, the initial group continue to fight the mechanical menace to this day.
