AN: This was inspired by a real events mentioned in the book Thick As Thieves by Andrew Penman.
Andrew Cristian laid back in his hospital bed and allowed his mind to over his most recent misfortune in his line of work. It really wasn't fair if you asked him. He was really doing these people a favour if you thought about it after all. He really didn't deserve to have happen to him what happened to him.
It had seemed like a perfectly straightforward job. The downstairs window was open, the only occupant was a young female college student of slight build who he was pretty sure was at college anyway and he was a pretty bulky man with considerable strength.
So it was fair to say that when he broke into this particular house, he wasn't expecting anyone to be there. And even if he did encounter anyone there, he was pretty sure he could intimidate them into staying out of his way. Although he preferred to avoid doing that if he could. The cops and judges tended to frown upon that and that would lead to harsher sentencing if it went to court.
It all started to go wrong when he discovered that the young woman in question was not in college, something he discovered when he walked in on her in her sitting room to come face to face with her. Still, he wasn't particularly worried about this unexpected development. The girl was wearing some kind of costume, a pair of white trousers that ended above her ankle, white shirt with all sorts of swirls and new-age-y style patterns on her sleeves (he didn't know what they were exactly) and a ribbon tied around her waist. He mentally wrote her off as a hippy and pulled out his knife.
The next thing he knew, the girl had snapped off a really fast powerful kick into his shoulder over her own body, sending him flying against a wall. That was where he received his broken collarbone from. He pulled himself to his feet quickly and tried to grab his knife. He wasn't intending to use it, he just didn't want to leave it behind.
Unfortunately for him, she obviously thought otherwise. She managed to intercept his hand and before he even realised she was there, he felt his wrist suddenly snap as she bent it in a way that wrists are patently not designed to bend. This was followed up by a very sharp pull backwards as she folded his arm on its elbow and threw him backwards, breaking his leg as he went down and slamming his head against the floor. The next thing he could remember was waking up in hospital covered in bandages and casts. Oh and facing criminal charges for breaking and entering.
No, life really wasn't fair.
AN: In case anyone isn't clear, the young lady in question is Orube.
