a/n: been working on this for awhile now… actually I started it right after I watched "arising" but then forgot I had started it and just finished it tonight enjoy !
He leaned his head into hers, gently pressing his lips onto her forehead, this was their first loving interaction in what had been a few long months. It pained him to know how much misery and sadness he had caused her and as he watched the lights disappear with the road, his son being taken away to safety with it, Michael could feel the gaping hole begin to form in his heart. Only one thing could fill it now.
He pulled away from Nikita ever so slowly, and looked down to see that tears were streaming down her face. He wiped them away with his thumb and left his hand there caressing her face willing her to smile. He no longer wanted to be the cause of any type of pain for her.
"Hey, it's ok" he said. "Like you said, it was the right thing to do, and I don't want you feeling bad for me. All I know now is that he is safe and that I never want to risk your life like that ever again" he was referring to the plan that Nikita herself had offered. She had flown the plane far enough into the air and when she was ready he had blown it up. Watching as another explosion occurred with someone who he cared deeply for, stuck in the middle, words couldn't even describe what he felt in that moment. The sight of the explosion and the fear of the results had terrified him. Even though he knew that she would make it out that she would be out before he ever pressed the button that would "end Cassandra's life" he still felt the pain rush through him, the hole of darkness swallow him up as he watched the pieces burn and waited for her confirmation that she was safe.
He leaned down once more placing his head against hers, "I love you, Nikita" a small smile spread across her lips and she allowed herself to finally let her guard down, too long had she been holding any emotion in not wanting to influence his decisions or make it any harder for him. Now that he was finally back in her arms she never wanted to lose him in that way ever again.
"I love you too" she thought to herself, but right now wasn't the time to say it. She was still afraid of the future that had seemed blurry ever since London.
Instead she said "let's go home". Entwining their fingers the ex assassins slowly made their way out of the park, happy to have each other at that moment in time. Nothing else mattered to them other than feeling the warmth of each other's bodies as they walked through the silent park. A million words of adoration floating through each of their minds. But none of the words had to be said aloud, because their proximity explained it all.
