Far Too Long
Lips hot and needy, arms strong pulling him close, hands running up his neck to cup the back of his head. The Doctor gasps for breath, at once trying to push back and pull the other man closer to him. Jamie, he thinks and immediately curses himself. This isn't Jamie, Jamie's gone so long ago now, this is Jack Harkness, and the Doctor has no rights to mistaken him for anyone else. But the mistake has been made and the Doctor screws his eyes shut, pulling the warm body against his searching blindly for lips, trying to stop the flood of memories. He needs this, needs to be close to someone, for the first time since the war, doesn't need to remember things he can never have back. He opens his eyes pulling back, and sees the look on the other man's flushed face and curses himself silently once more. Jack is in love with him, like Rose is in love with him, but at least he's had the good sense not to do this to her. To risk seeing Sarah Jane when it should be about Rose and only Rose. It used to be simple, and easy to love, before he learned about need, and grief and being alone, completely alone for the first time, because there's no longer a home he can go back to, ever. He never needed his companions, but he needs them now, needs Jack's body against his, needs not to be alone. He pulls Jack close again and lets his hands slide down to the other man's hips rocking his own hips forward and asking with his eyes. Later he lies awake wondering what's happened to him, wondering when he grew so cold, and not finding any answers.
