Passing on a Memory

Splinter was sleeping on the sofa. In another part of the room, four baby turtles were snuggled up in a large blanket and sleeping.

"Waaaahhhh!" Splinter heard from the baby turtles. He got up, went over to the baby turtles, and gathered them in his arms.

For some reason, he wasn't able to get the baby turtles to settle down. Then he remembered reading that the parent would sometimes sing a lullaby to get the baby to go to sleep.

"Go to sleep, my babies," Splinter gently sang. "Bright as the sun. Sleep tight, my babies. Sweet little ones."

Splinter sang the lullaby over and over. He stopped when the baby turtles finally fell asleep in his arms.

Twenty-nine years later…

Twenty-one year old Chloe Stapleman and her husband Roger were in the nursery trying to get their two week old sons Kyle and Frederick to sleep. Both babies were screaming their lungs out.

"Need any help?" Donny asked with concern, stepping into the doorway.

"Is there any way you and your brothers would be able to sing that song that Splinter used to sing to you and your brothers when you were babies?" Chloe asked.

"We'd really appreciate it," Roger chimed in.

"Sure, I'll go get them," Donny agreed.

Chloe and Roger continued to try to get their sons to sleep while Donny went to get his brothers. The turtles showed up a couple minutes later and entered the room.

Chloe place Kyle in Leo's arms and Roger placed Frederick in Raph's arms. The turtles formed a small circle.

"Go to sleep, my babies," Mikey sang.

"Bright as the sun," Donny sang.

"Sleep tight, my babies," Raph sang.

"Sweet little ones," Leo sang.

The turtles sang the song in unison several times. Eventually, Kyle and Frederick fell asleep.

Chloe gently picked up Kyle and Roger did the same with Frederick. Both babies were put in their cribs where they continued to sleep.

The turtles were in the living room chatting with each other. Just then, Chloe and Roger entered the room.

"We want to thank you for helping us," Roger said.

"If you didn't sing that song, we would've been up all night," Chloe chimed in.

"When we were babies, Splinter sang that song to us to get us to go to sleep," Leo explained.

"We were fussy babies that didn't always want to sleep," Mikey said.

"True," Raph said.

"Would it be all right if we slept in here tonight?" Donny asked Chloe and Roger who nodded.

The turtles, Chloe, and Roger said good night to each other. After Chloe and Roger headed upstairs, the turtles set up the large air mattress and got under the covers.

The turtles talked for a while. Eventually, they snuggled up together and fell asleep.
