It was a clear cold night. Lucy was taking Johanna for a walk in her stroller. She felt like they could both use the fresh air. She shook her head to clear the foggy thoughts from her mind. The sound of the baby's crying brought her back to reality.
"Hush darling it's alright," she whispered. Suddenly she had a destination in mind. She knew where she was going to go. It was the only place she could go. She was going to head to judge Turpin's house… and do whatever it would take to get Ben to return to her. Her first stop was to Mrs. Lovett's shop.
"Nellie would you be a luv and watch Johanna until I get back. There's something I have to do… and I would prefer she not be there. "Of course luv. Where are you going?" "But the look in Lucy's eye answered Nellie's question"
Judge Turpin was sitting in his study when Lucy barged in. "We need to talk" "You are a very bold lady," Alex Turpin commented, "have you never heard of knocking" "I have," Lucy said, "but I couldn't take the risk of you refusing to see me. You must send for Ben again"
"Oh must I," Turpin asked with a raise of his eyebrow, "and why is that" "BECAUSE HE HAS A FAMILY… A WIFE AND A YOUNG DAUGHTER… AND YOU MUST SEND FOR HIM. BECAUSE EVEN A JERK LIKE YOU SHOULD HAVE A CONSCIENCE" "Any more lip from you," Turpin calmly retorted, "and I shall send you to the whip" Lucy simply stood there refusing to move.
"Perhaps," Turpin said in a kinder tone, "I will make a deal with you. You want Benjamin back? What will you give me in return?" "Um… I'll give you anything… anything you ask with the exception of my baby" Turpin rubbed his chin.
"YOU will give YOURSELF to me. You will pleasure me, and allow me to enter you" "WHAT!" "Or," Turpin continued, "I shall never have Ben returned and I shall have Johanna sent to the whip" The threat of never having Ben returned was enough to shake her, but when he threatened her baby… well a mother must do what a mother must do.
After a long and torturous night judge Turpin released her. "Thank you ma'am it's been a business doing pleasure with you," he said, "and now since you kept your promise I will keep mine though I doubt he'll want you now" She was then thrown from the house into the street.
