To my companion…

When we first met, I knew very little.

I was very young and naïve.

You were so mature and wise.

To my companion…

Your cloak as white as clouds

With traces of the loveliest gold.

And your scarf was long and flowing in the desert wind.

Mine was red with a single strip of gold

And my scarf small and weak.

To my companion…

You chose to take me under your wing

You showed me the secrets in the desert.

You taught me to sing and fly.

And with your guidance,

my scarf grew as I did.

To my companion…

We explored the desert

Unlocking the secrets of our pasts.

From combing through the dunes

Looking for the next secret

To sliding down the flowing sands

With the sun at our backs.

To my companion…

You helped me hide

From the great machines

Hungry for the magic we held.

Despite my recklessness,

Even when my scarf was torn

You stayed by my side

And continued to guide me.

To my companion…

I had grown so much wiser

Than I was when this began.

And it was because of you.

And then the harsh cold consumed both of us.

Even when I collapsed in the snow

You stayed beside me

Until I at last was sleeping.

And not long after that

You joined me.

To my companion…

In a flash of light, I was revived.

My scarf, which had fallen apart

Had returned,

And it was bigger and grander than ever.

I flew into the heavens

And there you were.

You had guided me

And it's my turn to return the favor.

To my companion…

We had done it.

We made it to the very top of the mountain.

We spent some time

Drawing hearts in the snow.

Having one last moment before entering the light.

Because we both knew that once we did,

We'd never see one another again.

To my companion…

I've become a star

Flying across the desert.

My coat has changed.

It's still red, but with more gold.

I've found someone who was like I once was.

I promise to teach this one

The wisdom and knowledge

That you have taught me.

And I'll continue to pass my knowledge

Down to those who need it.

To my companion…

...thank you.
