Sarah's birthday
I know I pictured Calvin differently, but I was reading stories about an older Calvin when I got this idea. It also came from seeing 'Calvin and Hobbes-The Future' poster. Hope you like it. Oh, and Calvin's living in the house he grew up in, FYI. One-shot. I don't own Calvin and Hobbes.
Calvin was a little depressed. He looked out the window and saw his daughter, Sarah. She would be turning 6 tomorrow, and he still didn't know what to give her.
His wife, Susie, had gotten her most of what she wanted, but Calvin was still not sure. When asked, Sarah said that all she wanted from him was 'whatever he wanted to give her'.
Calvin rested his head in his hand and stuck it out the window as he thought about what his daughter was like. She was a trouble maker like he used to be, though not to his extent. She also was smart, like her mother, and had developed a taste for children anime.
She had friend (though she wouldn't admit it) in school named Clay, although she thought he was the weirdest guy ever, and he her. And, though she never admit it, she also had a bully named Mark.
She had a tree fort that she called the base for a club called GROSS (Get Rid Of Smelly boyS), of which she was the only member.
Her favorite cereal was called Sugar Coated Marshmallow Atoms. She also liked a story called 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs', which she would have him read to her ever night.
'She's just like was,' he thought, chuckling a little, 'except for one thing.' Then he stood up, nearly knocking himself unconscious in the process (he was still part way out the window after all). 'That's it,' he thought.
The next day was a very happy day for Sarah. All her friends (and both Mark and Clay) were there, plus she had gotten everything she wanted. But she was still sad… her father hadn't given her her present yet.
Then Calvin walked into the room, holding a old box with the upside-down words 'Transmografier' on it. It wasn't wrapped, by Sarah could tell it was her gift. "Happy birthday Sarah," he said, setting the box down on the table, "your present should be somewhere at the bottom."
Sarah opened the box and went through it. First, she took out a mask and cape. It looked her size, and she might try it later, but she knew it wasn't her gift.
Second, she took out an old squirt gun, dart gun, and a magazine for bubble gum. Still not her gifts. Finally, she took out an old mask, tied around a volleyball. She didn't think that this was her present either.
Then she took one last look into the box. She gasped and covered her mouth in joy. "I hope you like him," Calvin said, "he and I went on quite a few adventures, and I know you two will do the same." Then, in Sarah's eyes only, an orange tiger stood up in the box and smiled at her.
"Hi," he said, "I'm Hobbes."
I hope I didn't give away the ending, but otherwise I'm satisfied with the story. I hope you liked it to.
