Harry peered over the top of his book and groaned. Draco Malfoy had just come into the Library. Harry hid behind his potions homework and tried to ignore the boy and continue his half finished essay. The two of them were alone in the room; Hermione and Ron had a prefect meeting which Malfoy was obviously skipping, and Madam Pince had gone to fetch some new books which she'd had delivered.
Harry had finally managed to get focused on his homework again when there was a thump of books on his table and as Harry looked up; Malfoy pulled out a chair and sat down, not looking at Harry.
"Can I help you Malfoy?" Harry said sarcastically, eyeing the huge pile of books.
The blond boy glanced at the black haired one and drawled, "No need to feel flattered Potter, there are no other places to sit." Sure enough, all the other chairs had already been put up on the tables ready for house-elves to clean the floor. "I assure you, I would much rather sit on the other side of the world but I have a potions essay to study for and this is the only place with the books I require. Now if you'll excuse me, I plan to score higher than the 'D' that some people got on their last assignments." Malfoy smirked as he said this, turning to his own work-leaving Harry flushed at this mention of his failure the other day. 'Ignore him, just ignore him' said the imaginary voice of Hermione in his head. Harry sighed quietly and kept on studying.
They had been sitting in silence for quite some time when Malfoy spoke again: "Potter, that book you're using. I need it."
Harry scowled, "Well Malfoy, as you said, I'm using it. So wait until I'm done."
"Unfortunately I cannot wait forever Potter. Give me the book now, I'm faster than you."
"How about no," Harry said, turning a page in pointedly slowly. Malfoy's eyes narrowed, "I don't have time for this you filthy half-blood. Give me the book."
"Insults Malfoy? Daddy never taught you patience now did he? If you stop distracting me I'll be done faster and then this won't be a problem now will it?"
"Or, I could just get it from you now. Accio potions book!" the book flew from Harry's hands, knocking over an ink bottle as it went, and was caught by the sneering Malfoy. Harry leapt around the table and lunged for the book but Malfoy held it high above his head, sneering again "Now, now Potter! Didn't your mudblood mother teach you about patie-ooph!" Harry had punched him in the stomach, snatching the book as Malfoy doubled over.
"Don't you DARE talk about my mother Malfoy, you snivelling little slug." As Harry turned to go back to his seat, Malfoy tried to pull himself with the back of Harry's robes, causing Harry to overbalance. Harry turned as he fell, about to tell Malfoy to let go, and the suddenly the only he saw was Malfoy's astonished face- far closer than Harry had thought. Their lips mashed together for only a few seconds before they backed away from each other, horrified, but the damage had been done.
The pair of them blushed, stared at the floor, and Harry cleared his throat awkwardly. "Well," Harry began, hoping his voice didn't sound as weird as he thought it did, "well, I, er, I'm done with the book for now. I'll-I'll ask for Hermione to help me out with it." Thrusting the book towards Malfoy and grabbing his homework, Harry hurried back to Gryffindor Tower. Malfoy stayed on the floor of the Library, redder and more embarrassed than he had ever been in his life, until Madam Pince came back and told him to leave. Neither Harry nor Draco ever spoke of this event for the rest of their lives.
