Balthier and Vaan weren't entirely different people. Not as much as they would allow you to believe, anyway. They were both male, of course. Though Vaan was more of a boy. And Balthier quite the gentleman. Both were fiercely protective of their female counterparts. Both longed for freedom; sweet, sugary, feel it in your bones freedom. And neither would settle for anything other than the best.
When Penelo suddenly kissed Vaan in one of the empty rooms on Strahl, he was very surprised. She blushed her cute virginal blush and looked at the ground. "I've liked you for a long time."
It wasn't that Penelo wasn't one of the best. It was just that she wasn't the best for him.
The blond frowned, moving the weight from one foot to the other and scratching the back of his head. "Uhm. I really don't know how to tell you this Penelo. I like you too. I really do, but..."
"But she's not the treasure you're searching for, is she Vaan?" The cheeky sky pirate leaned against the opening to the door; arms crossed and a smirk across his tanned face.
Vaan sighed, arm falling from behind his head. His frowned deepened as a disheartened look crossed Penelo's face.
Balthier stood straight up, humming down in his throat. "It would seem your greatest treasure is of the male persuasion, hm?" He tilted his head to the side much like when he is preparing to fire at an enemy.
Penelo, who had turned her head to listen to Balthier speak, swiveled to face Vaan once again. The blond had an angry look on his face as he glared indignantly at the sky pirate. She couldn't believe it. All those wasted years of liking a boy...Who probably hadn't even given her a second thought. Her next action surprised even Balthier. She slapped Vaan and walked away. Not even a guilty glance back.
Vaan stood rubbing his reddened cheek, cringing slightly at the pain he felt. "Remind me why we let her use hammers." He looked up to the sky pirate who had crossed the room to him.
Balthier chuckled, eyes lighter with the laughter. "She'll get over it." Vaan looked unsure. "Trust me", he said, the words rolling off his tongue.
"Fine", the desert boy crossed his arms across his chest. "But you didn't have to tell her like that."
"I am well aware of this fact, but I thought it more apt to get it over quickly. At least you aren't dead."
A small smile spread across Vaan's face. "Hm. I guess you're right." He then stood up on his toes and kissed Balthier on the cheek. "Thank you." The blond then took off, probably on his way to the captain's chair.
Balthier was left behind smirking a very evil smirk. "Oh no, Vaan. Thank you." His shoes clicked on the floor. No way that desert rat was getting off with just a kiss on the cheek.
Hahaha. STUPID. -Runs off.-
