—GREEN ENIGMA—
She knew of all those stories where two people meet and fall in love because they were complete opposites, managing to string together a healthy relationship that kept it both calming and fiery.
Black and white.
Outgoing and shy.
Loud and quiet.
Sun and moon.
She hoped that Sasuke would have been her opposite. After all, she was cheery a lot of the time and had, to some extent and unintentionally, mirrored her appearance from his; he was dark, black, bitter, while she was sugary, bright and bubbly.
She had hoped that that was all that was needed for the two of them to be together but in the end… she guessed it was never meant to be. It was her own naivety to not fully judge what was needed for a relationship to bloom.
Maybe they were too different or maybe it was something else that made them vastly incompatible. Whatever the reason, she was damning it to hell. He was gone from her life, having refused the chance to return to Konoha all those years ago. Nothing was going to change his mind and she knew that; she knew that yonks ago but some part of her…
…some small, insignificant part of her…
…wanted him back.
That part of her was gone; a hole in heart, in her mind. She knew it was there but had long ago blacked it out, marked it as uncrossable territory to ponder.
A hole.
Maybe that was why she was so entranced by this one; the one this man harboured in his chest. This new man she had met somehow, some way.
He was an enigma. Something so confusing and calm, and something so much like Sasuke but also so different.
Something.
She used that term loosely because technically he was dead, and so was she. In the destruction of the ninja world almost everyone had long since passed on but that wasn't the point.
The point was that death had led her to him; this enigma. And the hole she was so mesmerised by was the one in his chest. The small, circular thing that hollowed through him. The hole that was situated almost where his heart should be.
Maybe that was why she had that hole in her mind, or in her heart. It was so he could fill it, and vice versa; though he was very much against it. He was like Sasuke in a way. Calm, cool, calculating and ever so mysterious, but at the same time he was not.
He was like a child. He didn't understand many things, such as why humans cried or did not fear him and the like. He was curious and so oblivious to human emotions, unlike Sasuke who just totally ignored them, barred them from his soul.
But why was she so attached to this one? The fact that he was a little like Sasuke couldn't be the whole truth. It was only a small portion. Was it the fact that he was hollow? No. It only was a little bit of the reason.
Similarities.
They hardly had any. She was a medic and longed to heal people no matter who it was. She was warm and compassionate, whereas he was he was almost the opposite. He didn't care much about the wellbeing of others but also wouldn't bother with harming people he'd consider 'trash.'
It wasn't their differences that made her so interested; it was their single similarity.
Their eyes.
There was something with their eye colour that made them knit, even if the seam was haphazardly done.
Maybe that was why she was never meant to be Sasuke. What part of them was similar? There wasn't much at all but with this man...
…with Ulquiorra…
…their relationship was held on their single similarity; their eyes. If that was gone, then their differences would reign down and it would be even harder to build it.
But it was their eyes.
Green eyes. Apple-green. Bright and so intoxicating.
And in the end, their holes were filled, even if it was just by a little.
