A/N: I got the idea from a great line in the book, for this little drabble. I'll share it at the end so as not to make it a spoiler.

It set right after Rhett and Scarlett's Honeymoon, when they return to Atlanta.

"But Rhett don't be so silly, it's only for one night," Scarlett was getting impatient with Rhett for complaining about her idea. The hotel room they were to occupy until the Peachtree Street house was built was not yet vacant due to a booking error. But it was only for one night. Besides, Scarlett liked the idea of being able to show off her luxurious new cloths to Pitty and Melly.

"One night's plenty for Old Peter; remember what I told you when we got engaged, about staying in this house? I don't like it. It's bad for a man. This was the house that molly coddled the last of the man out of Old Frank. And what about Ashley, these two combined houses are doing the same, the last of any motivation is-"

"Oh I wish you would leave Ashley out of this," pouted Scarlett, but the comment about Ashley's motivation, his push, his gumption, struck something in her mind. But she pushed it away quickly. Rhett, seeing her pouting, and in an indulgent mood, gave in, against his better judgment.

"All right Scarlett, but just remember what I said," He closed the tired subject and the carriage jolted from in front of the hotel on his instructions to the driver, "I wish you'd listen to me once in a while Scarlett."

When they arrived at Pittys Old peter gave Rhett a sour look as he admitted him into the home, and went for the luggage, "Mist' Butler."

"Captain, Captain Butler. Don't worry you're pretty head at that Peter," the old man glared at Rhett's sarcasm, "we've hired some help to put up the luggage." As Rhett said this a couple of men jumped off back of the carriage and started inside with the luggage. Peter was muttering about trashy free issue workers, as an insult to his character the rest of the night. Scarlett was much too busy to notice as she showed off purchase after purchase, but Rhett noticed. He eyed Old Peter warily as they retreated upstairs to bed. Once in the room Rhett cringed.

"Franks marriage bed, ugh," Rhett eyed the quilts and pillows warily. Scarlett turned a dark shade of red and slugged Rhett's shoulder.

"I was right about Peter, Scarlett," Rhett whispered to her later as she lie in his arms, drifting off to sleep, "he's looked more and more ready to kill me, for desecrating the Hamilton roof with my presence, as the night has worn on."

"Fiddle-dee-de Rhett, he'd just an old servant," Scarlett yawned and drifted off. Rhett sighed and closed his eyes as well.

Scarlett awoke later that night, shaken by something. She turned to Rhett to find him cold. She let out a piercing scream, there was a knife in his chest. Peter stood in the doorway, staring, the assassin.

"Rhett! RHETT, RHETT," oh he'd been right, he'd been right. And suddenly all his scathing comments of Ashley seemed valid, and she wailed, "Rhett, don't leave me alone with them!"

A/N: The wonderful line from the book was: "And I'm not living at Pitty's, you might have bullied Frank into it, but not me. Besides, I think Old Peter would assassinate me if I dared desecrated the holy Hamilton roof."

sigh no one listens to Rhett.
