My first Lost fic! I'm going to post a series of one-shots with the numbers in them. These will be short, sweet, to the point, and well, I'll post until I run out of ideas. R&R, and enjoy!
Claire Littleton is four years old. Mommy told her not to leave the house, Mommy told her that the outside isn't safe, but Claire doesn't want to stay inside. Claire wants to go outside to play, so she gets on her bicycle and rides down the street. The wind is nice and cool, and Claire is happy. She turns a corner, and there is a small, feathery lump on the road. Claire gets off her bike and walks out into the street, toward the lump. It's a little bird, and it's been crushed. Claire has to stare at it for a minute to even see that the deformed lump is a bird. Claire sits down and stares at it. Little white worms crawl out of the little bird's eyes. Claire counts them. She wonders if she should pick it up with a stick, and bury it or something before the little worms eat it all up. She knows Mommy will be angry if she takes a bird home, but she goes back to the sidewalk, picks up a stick, and comes back on the road. She doesn't know that a car a few blocks away is coming towards her at fifteen miles an hour. The license plate number is 162342.
Claire almost dies that day – the car brushes the back of her shirt as she wanders off the road, crushed bird balanced on a stick.
