"Don't forget Me"
Chapter 1- And the World Spins Madly On.
Meredith sat in the bar. It wasn't supposed to end like this; actually it wasn't supposed to end at all. She slowly drowned the shot in front of here as the bell tinkled behind her. She turned and saw him, him and his perfect wife walking in. She shook her head and turned her head back to face Joe.
"Another one" she said. So far she had only had one, but she was sure the number was sure to toll up soon enough.
"Bad day?" Joe asked as Meredith drained the next shot.
"Oh you could call it that, you know being stuck with your ex boyfriends perfect wife, being abused by a patient. You know my day couldn't get much better could it. But no. I can't get away Joe" she said downing the newer shot.
"Well don't look now, because here he comes" Joe said retreating back to the bar.
Derek leant up against the bar next to Meredith. She could smell his cologne or whatever it was from his clothes. He looked at her and gave her a weary smile that Meredith just turned and ignored. She stood up and turned to Joe.
"I'm out for the night" she said, leaving her money and a tip on the bench. "I'll see you tomorrow night."
"But you've barely started" he insisted.
"Bye Joe" Meredith said with a forced smile and made herself walk away.
Derek watched Meredith walk out. She was damaged, in a way it was worse than Bonnie, who was now gone from this world as everyone knew it, and it was his fault. He angrily ran a hand through his hair, grabbed the drinks and walked back to the table he was sharing with his wife. Wife it was a word he didn't like to use when describing Addison, especially recently. He sat down; with a sigh; across from Addison.
"So I saw Meredith over there, talk to her?" she inquired carefully, knowing if she phrased it any other way she would either receive the silent treatment all night or her would refuse to talk.
"No she didn't talk" was all he said. He never gave any extra information. It hadn't always been that way. Once they had been the happy couple every one wanted to be, the inspirational couple, the dream couple, the neurosurgeon and the neonatal surgeon, who went home, madly in love every night.
Addison sighed and drank her drink, ready for another silent night.
Meredith walked through the door, ignoring Izzie and George calling after her. She sat down on her bed, and pulled out the stored bottle of tequila from under her bed. Her day could be drowned into obliviation and that was what she planned to do. She uncapped it and took a quick swig from the bottle, setting up the paracetamol and water for the morning. "Never drink unprepared" she joked lamely.
Derek pulled up outside the trailer, Addison getting out of the car and running in out of the rain. Still he thought of how different it would have been had of he chosen Meredith. He would have been at her house now, probably eating a pizza, watching a surgical tape with Izzie and George. Instead he was going home to sleep with the wife in his trailer. Reluctantly he got out of the car and walked into the trailer. Addison was already in bed, her back facing him. He had come a long way but there was a long way to go.
