She was standing at the edge of the forest; hand on the rough trunk of a tree, brown eyes glazed over in a pain that came from deep within her psyche.
At the other end of the clearing, silver hair danced in the wind. Golden eyes silently observed the woman as the sun set, casting a red-orange colour over the land.
Silently the golden-eyed man trotted over to her, his large, clawed hands helping her to stand without the strength of the tree. Her pained gaze drifted to his worried one. Neither spoke a word yet his concern and her weakness were as loud as shouts in the twilight bathed air.
Finally, not used to the silence nor comfortable in it, he spoke. His words voiced the already obvious distress in a rough tone. Her eyes flicked away, guilt shining through her pain.
"Why?"
Normally she didn't care about others. It had earned her many names, among them being cold bitch, soulless freak, etc. They were unpleasant but she kept up her airs and let them be said. Honestly, at the end it wouldn't matter.
Her body tensed up again, her knees buckling and dragging the two to the solid ground. He held her as her borrowed body shook.
She was dying.
He echoed his question again, this time with more urgency and force. He cared deeply for the girl in his arms; he cared for everything about her and everything she stood for. He loved her more than anything else. Yes, the little school-girl and him had some spark but the connection, this feeling in his gut that he belonged with the her, didn't ever make itself known with the time-traveller.
Light mint snake-like creatures began to surround the two, tiny glowing orbs concealed within their grasp. Earlier she had been against them bringing the things to her but now, on the brink of death, she allowed the glowing souls to enter her. Some of the snake creatures flew away to retrieve more but some remained, encircling the two star-crossed lovers.
Finally the sun slipped beyond the horizon, the moon's ethereal light shining down upon them. The stars glittered in the heavens. A calm breeze drifted through the grass, entangling white and black hair and making the strands dance.
Slowly, his form dipped lower, his nose touching her face. She barely heard his whispered words as the wind carried them away. Then, their lips met.
"Kiss me before you go."
