So, this focuses on Sam's faith and discusses Christian (specifically Lutheran) ideas about faith.
The church mentioned in this is 100% real, and they do actually post audio sermons at audio-sermons/
I can't remember a specific sermon where he talks about forgiveness, but I can remember that he (Pastor Steven Naylor) did talk about God's forgiveness. If you can figure out which sermon it is I will be very grateful.
Also I don't actually know if Pastor Jim was Catholic, but for the sake of this fic he is.

Ever since Sam had found online sermons while doing research for a hunt, he had been listening to a different on each week. Since they were always on the move, and Dean would mock him if he told him he wanted to listen to sermons, it was Sam's way of going to church. he had listened to different sermons from different churches, but none of them had felt quite right. This week he had stumbled upon Saviour Lutheran Church. He usually stuck to sermons from Catholic Churches, as that's what Pastor Jim had been, but he figured he would try it out and see if he liked it. Sam scrolled through the sermons before clicking play on a random on. He sat and listened to the pastor speak about how all sins were the sam in God's eyes, and how because of Jesus's death on the cross, all you had to do to be forgiven and washed clean of all your sins was to truly repent and ask God for forgiveness. There were no tasks you had to do, and being a 'good person' didn't change anything. It was all about your faith and your want for forgiveness. As the pastor finished speaking and the recording stopped, Sam sat back and thought. The idea that all of his wrongdoings,(setting Lucifer free, drinking demon blood, killing hundreds of people, and letting Dean down just to name a few) were equal to a child taking an extra cookie, or lying to their parents about brushing their teeth, was laughable. The idea that he could be forgiven of his sins even more so. Sam sighed. AS much as he was sorry for what he had done, as desperately as he wanted to take it all back and be forgiven, he just couldn't believe that it could be that simple; that he, the abomination, could ever be clean. He closed the page, and went back to researching for the hunt, making sure to clear his browser history so that Dean would never know.
