"The Book"
Chapter I
Shelby sat down on her bed wondering why no one had remembered her birthday…especially Scott. She was so confused why everyone was just their normal selves. Yesterday they had asked her if she was excited about her birthday coming up that next day but there was something about how they acted that day.
It was a warm late-spring morning Saturday at Horizon. Shelby wanted to ask somebody—anybody if they remembered about her special day, but it didn't seem right for some odd reason. She rested her head on the pillow and felt something hard. She lifted her pillow up and there was something wrapped up under it. She guessed it was a book. There was no card or anything with it. She wondered who it was from and how it got there. She opened the wrapped supposedly book. She was right—it was a book. It looked more to her like a diary. She looked around the room and no one was to be seen. She opened the book and read the first page. It read:
"Dear Shelby,
You might not know or remember me but don't freak out. This isn't a prank. I guess I seem to be the only one who remembers your special day. Huh? Maybe this book will bring back memories. When you've finished reading this WHOLE book I want you to send word to this address:
Elizabeth Taylor
202 West Bank Street
Boston, MA 02203
Then you will find out who gave you this book. The memories I am talking about are ones that you may not remember. You were mostly a tiny baby. If I told you now who wrote this book, you may not believe me."
Shelby was shocked. It probably is a prank. No one remembered my birthday at all except for this person. Maybe Scott did it to fool me. Her head was swimming with thoughts. She put the book back under her pillow. She couldn't read anymore. It was too weird. She went outside and sat down for a while to think. She was brainwashed though.
