The game was a close one. In the final seconds he made a three-pointer, giving his team the win. As his teammates congratulate him, a giant man walks up to him and gives him a hug. When they pull apart, the man's eyes are filled with tears as he says "I'm proud of you, son."
That's when Jack wakes up. He sighs, realizing it was just a dream. Although the game had actually finished like that, his father hadn't been there, hadn't told Jack that he was proud. Even though McCoy Senior had promised, he hadn't shown. And Jack wonders why it's always the nightmares of his father that are true instead of the dreams.
