Myths and Red Dragons

Tatsuya became a well-practised dreamer after the accident.

It wasn't that he'd never done it before. He'd dreamed of being one of the fastest runners in the world. Pushed himself too far for it, and his friend too, and when he saw the haunted look in Taiki's eyes afterwards, he knew that was his fault, no matter what Taiki convinced himself.

But after the accident, there were more outlandish. Fantasies he could write and draw but never make come true and those were the best because he couldn't get too close and then hurt himself or others when they failed. And dreams with magic and monsters were always the best because they never existed. Never would. The world had its limits and those were it.

Until he saw Taiki with a red dragon that definitely did not exist but also wasn't a dream (and he knew it wasn't, because he pinched himself and hard). And then he had to look a little deeper into magic and mythical monsters and all that because if red dragons could pop out of nowhere, then miracles could too.

And he was well-versed in the attainable dreams, even if he was an expert with the unattainable ones.
