Just wasting time trying
To prove who's
Right
The night air is cool and the stars are bright as Charles sits in outside of a dinner that is near a dock and waits. It feels like all he's been doing is waiting since Erik left him bleeding on that beach in Cuba, maybe even a little before then.
Charles holds the chess broad and the box with all the pieces in his lap. He and Erik were supposed to meet for dinner and a game of chess but Erik stood him up again. This was a waste of time, so he rolls back to the car where Alex is waiting for him and goes home.
And if it all goes
Crashing into the sea.
Just you an me trying to
Find a light
Erik sits listening to Emma Frost complain to about him going to see Charles. She doesn't understand why he has to see Charles. He remembers that night he and Charles first night met. Charles had touched his mind, pulled him from the icy waters, and told him he wasn't alone but his friendship with Charles had ended when he had killed Shaw. They were both still trying to find each other because they were each other's light in the dark or at least he thought and hoped Charles did to.

Letting Cannonballs
Fly. Say what you
Mean and it turns into
A fight. Fists fly for my mouth
As it turns south
Charles sits on hill watching his students use their powers and throw things that are exploding and remembers a fight months ago. The fight that only last a few minutes that started with tangled limbs and fists but ended with him in a wheelchair and his and Erik's friendship.
Turn the lights down
Walk these halls
Alone
Erik walks down the halls of his hideout toward his room and as he goes he turns out the lights. He craws into bed alone and for the first time misses the Xavier mansion, the kids, Charles and the feeling of being home.
We can feel so far
From so close

Charles remembers the first night he come home from the hospital.
The house is warm and cold at the same time when Charles enters it after two weeks away. He rolls past rooms that once were filled with laughter or quiet concentration. He misses Erik. Then as he rolls past a room and Charles feels him.
"Erik!" He yells in his mind, quickly opens the door to that room and rolls in.
"Charles," Erik said standing the bedroom "Came to pick up some things."
"Okay." Charles says
They look at each other for a while then Erik breaks the quiet.
"Charles, I'm sorry."
"Erik, could we talk about this in morning. I'm tired, I just got back from the hospital."
"I won't be here in morning." Erik says closing the suitcase "but I'll help you to bed."
That's exactly what Erik does he wheels Charles to his room, draws him a bath, helps him bathe and then puts him in pajamas and tucks him into bed.
Suddenly Charles feels so very lonely even though Erik is right next to him. Erik pushes his hair from his forehead kisses him on the forehead.
"Goodnight," Erik says "and Goodbye Charles."
"Goodnight Erik." Is all Charles says to Erik's retreating form because he promised himself he would never say goodbye to Erik.
Charles is at the dock again but this time Erik is here as well they sit across from each other. Ships pass each other in the water. Charles wins the chess game. Then just sits there with Erik watching the ships and feels like he and Erik are like ships in night seeing each other, passing each other but never touching.
