Long Lost
His arms wrapped around the other's body in an embrace that still fit. His head buried in the other's shoulder, his hair was tickled by the slight breath not remembered 'til felt again. Eyes closed, breathing in the scent of one not felt in years, the warmth of living skin healing the hardness started long ago. Harsh, fast breaths and racing heart calmed and slowed by the comforting beat of a heart whose steady rhythm had once stilled so many years ago. Arms wrapped around his chest, arms last seen cold and still.
Lost in a world of dreams and not wanting to let go and shatter the illusion, yet desperately needing to know, Aragorn pulled back, but did not release the forearms of the other. Blue eyes unchanged stared unlinking into his own desperate, tear-blurred gaze. Trembling now, still not believing, he pulled his left hand free, and gently, as though fearful that the dream would still dissolve, cupped the other's smooth flawless cheek into his own rough and callused palm. The world did not shift, and a dream long dreamt—though never believed—was realized.
Then the tears fell, and he collapsed into his friends waiting, open arms.
