Disclaimer: Sadly I do not own Merlin, Arthur, Gaius, or any of the other characters in that fantastic show... I'm just a fan struggling to come to grips with the show coming to a close with too much time on her hands, clearly.
Summary: What happens when Merlin finds an unexpected garment in Gaius' wardrobe?
Notes: This is my first shot at writing a Merlin ficlet, so I hope it turned out alright. I was just messing around with a prompt list and out popped this short little scene. I hope you enjoy!

Crossdressing in the Kingdom of Camelot

"Do I even want to know where you got this from, Gaius?" Merlin managed, snickering as he held up the tattered white nightgown he'd found in the old man's wardrobe closet. It was ancient looking, and stained, and to be quite honest Merlin didn't want to spend another moment touching it let alone entertaining wearing it. He would, however, have a good laugh while he was able.

Gaius sighed. He had better things to do than recount his past love life to the likes of a snot nosed teenage boy, never mind that this particular snot nosed teenage boy was perhaps the greatest sorcerer the world had ever seen. That knowledge didn't even enter into the equation on that particular night... after all, a man had to draw the line somewhere. Gaius chose to draw it in a way that'd save him at least a shred of dignity in the long run.

"Do you want my help or not?" he said simply, never taking his eyes off of the potion he'd been concocting. "Because you're perfectly welcome to ask Gwen for one of her dresses, but I'd hate to imagine what Arthur might think if he found out."

Merlin scowled at the offending garment, resigning himself to yet another miserable adventure for the benefit of one Arthur Pendragon, bumbling king of Camelot and nearly professional damsel in distress at that point. Gaius was right. It was hideous, sure... but it'd have to do.

"I can't believe the things I do for that insufferable prat," he muttered, shoving the gown into his bag before taking off for the courtyard.

Merlin's gender-swapping spell was by far his least favorite of all.
