Cleon never could understand fief colors. What was the point, really? They did not protect anyone in battle; they did not earn favors at court. Besides, there were only so many colors to pick from, so some fiefs had to share. Some complexions did not go with some colors, so when certain lords or ladies came to court they always looked hideous.

But with some of them, came irony. As a squire, he had worn blue and cream livery, the colors of the Fief Mindelan. More importantly, they were Kel's colors, when she was not dressed in the green and yellow (a combination he doubts even the gods could wear and make look good) uniform of Goldenlake. If she had to wear any clothing at all, he wishes they would be the colors of Kennan, of his fief.

He would prefer her wearing no clothing, though.
