A short Jily fic, based on a fanart I thought was utterly adorable. This is an attempt on my part to break through my writer's block...let's see if it works!
It was a cold, windy evening. The pale moon hung in the sky like a large melon, just out of reach. Moonlight illuminated patches of grass and castle walls, shimmering through the thin cloud cover.
Lily Evans shivered and wrapped her gloved hands around her arms as she walked quickly across the grounds of her beloved school. Hogwarts looked gorgeous at night, stone turrets spiraling up into a starry above. She loved these nights; when the grounds were empty, the moon was shining, and she was free to walk around and think.
She chose a section of stone wall to sit on and tucked her legs under her. The bitter cold wind tossed her dark red locks about and turned her nose and cheeks pink. She closed her eyes against the biting wind, and when she opened them, she found herself lit by the glow of a flower, floating in midair right in front of her.
The petals glowed gold and amber and burnt orange, sparks dancing off from the fiery tips. Nectar made of liquid flame pooled in the brilliant center. Its surface was dusted with a light cover of sunshine yellow pollen. Agnilias, Indian fire flowers, were found only in one of three hidden meadows deep in the Himalayas. To find one was a miracle. To try was suicidal.
And yet here was one, right in front of her.
Lily's hands trembled as she plucked it out of the air. "Thank you," she said softly, though no one was there.
Behind his Invisibility Cloak, James Potter grinned.
