Title: Four-Letter Words

Prompt(s): #46 – Glimmer for 50scenes.

Four letter words are dangerous. They are bad, dirty things. At least that's what his mother always says. And as he sits alone in his office, watching his new TV being taken away, he decides that he just might agree with her for once.

Hope is a four-letter word.

It sparkles with the possibility of getting her back, only to be snatched away. She's such a tease, coming into his office again, sitting at her old desk, leaning over him in that familiar way. It's almost like the last year didn't happen. It's almost as if he had a chance again.

See, this was why hope is so tricky. He meant every word of that offer. No one on his new team can actually replace her.

Maybe he should have thrown dinner into the mix. It worked last time. Of course, that was old-Cameron. New-Cameron definitely knew better than to fall for that again (especially after he showed her why date really was a four-letter word).

Hope is a four-letter word. Like want or need. Like how he wants her back or like how he needs her to keep him in line. Like how he wants to make her moan and needs to know the feel of her under his hands. Like how he wants to bend her over his desk or how he needs to do bad, dirty things to her.

Kiss is a four-letter word too. But, he doesn't have so much of a problem with that one. She can kiss him all she wants please. Had it really been a year since the first last time?

Hope is a four-letter word, one of those tricky ones that just sneaks up on you when you're trying not to think of her breasts and how she knows where you keep your porn. She works the differential like a practiced dance and he wonders how much subtext he can really read from this situation.

You miss me.

No, you miss me.

Well, of course he misses her. Who else would do his charting, or really care about his patients? Who else would fight with him during the differential or make silly bets with him? Who else would flirt with him even when he was being an asshole?

It wasn't like he could just search threw a pile of CVs and find another Allison Cameron. It wasn't like Thirteen was going to start decorating the office with candy canes, or have the same loopy 'g's, and she sure as hell doesn't look as good sitting behind his desk.

Miss is a four-letter word he doesn't want to admit too (at least out loud). He still has his pride after all. Granted, it might be the only thing he has left now, but still…

Hope is a four-letter word.

And so is love.
