The Shining Fanfiction

Petrifying visions. Seeing images behind my eyelids in such horrifying, traumatizing detail… And

the blood! There was so much blood! An everlasting crimson river, just an arms' length away.

What's to keep this river from overflowing its boundaries, I wonder. What's to prevent this

eternal flow of gore and unimaginable horror, just an arms' length away, from crashing through

the dark chasm that's my mind? Why stop there, and not collide with the uneventful timeline

known as my life? My visions always come true. I should know, I've been "dealing" with them

for fifteen years, after all. These, among others, are the malevolent thoughts that plague my

mind, seconds after I awoke. Actually, I thought, I'm not sure whether to call these… occurrences

visions, nightmares, or dreams. None of the terms seems to do those events justice. As my mind

rambled on, I became aware that someone was trying to talk to me. A boy, about five years old, I

thought. I struggled to remember his name, as it had been eons since we'd exchanged anything

resembling a normal conversation, or at any rate, as normal as a conversation one can have with an

imaginary friend. As I continually tried to push the traumatizing visions out of my vast memory , the

boy's name slowly came into focus. David? Duke? I mentally sighed. I knew it started with the letter D,

but neither name sounded correct. That's it!, I thought, finally remembering. Daniel is his name! Daniel

Torrence.
