A/N: Just a short Jily fic...because they are adorable.

Thank you so much to everyone who reviewed/followed/favorited my last story (Sweatshirts)! It means the world to me that people actually want to read what I've written!

Disclaimer: If I owned the characters below, I'd have a model Hogwarts in my backyard...but I don't.

The sound of muffled sobs greeted James Potter as he trudged up the stairs to the owlery late that evening.

"Hullo?" he asked. "Who's in here?"

"Who-oh, it's you, Potter," said Lily Evans, her tone changing to one of annoyed weariness. "What do you want?"

"Are you okay?" he asked, walking over to where she was sitting against the wall.

"Oh, what do you care?" she asked bitterly. "You don't care for me. You just pretend to."

"Lily, that's not true. Tell me what's wrong."

She shook her head, crying even more. "I don't want to talk about it."

"Is this about…earlier?" he asked.

She nodded, sobbing harder.

"I just can't believe he'd call me a…a… that. We've been friends our whole lives."

James slid down so he was sitting next to her and wrapped his arm around her, pulling her towards him.

"Sh…sh…" he murmured. "It's okay now. He's never going near you again."

"Oh, James, you don't know that," she replied, dripping tears all over his shirt.

"Yes I do," he told her earnestly. "I'm going to make sure he never has the chance to hurt you ever again."

"Really?" she asked him.

Warm, sincere hazel met vibrant green ones glassed over with tears, and Lily sighed and nestled her head onto his shoulder, thinking that, perhaps, James Potter was not so bad after all.
