This is my very first PROPER Marks&Sparks story. Believe it or not. So sorry for the delay, as well as chucking down rain here in bloody soggy Britain it's also chucking down homework. Believe it or not.

Mac sighed and rubbed his eyes. Even if he was exhausted , he would never admit he was. Or tired, for that matter.

It was that time of year again. The season of festivity and merriness. Was that even a word? This was a clear sign his brain was beginning to melt.

He thought about staying in the lab for the holidays he dreaded and tried to avoid, but he couldn't help thinking that perhaps he should actually use his apartment for something. After all, he was paying for it every month.

And besides, everyone else would be celebrating and practically no one would be at work, except for the few people who were just plain saddo's, i.e. the lab rats...

Of course, Mac didn't mind being alone.

Or did he? He wasn't sure. He had never had company with him at the scarce occasions when he did go to his apartment. He never realized the loneliness. There was work to be done; being lonely was never part of his busy schedule.

Damn, he thought. It's mucking up my head. Maybe I should take... just one day off.

He rubbed his temples and looked up and through the glass walls. Lots of people wondered why he had glass walls, Mac was so complicated that hecould have had no walls and no one would know any better about him. In fact he could have been made out of glass and all you would see would be normal, human - looking, slimy guts. Maybe a metallic, steel heart if your imagination was big enough.

It seemed that the mischeivious team were up to something again. It was honestly like a school playground in the lab when all the serious work was done: rumours were spread like cranberry jam on - Dammit!

Shaking his head, he observed them discreetly.

The team were huddled together, then everybody suddenly burst out laughing except for Stella, who was slowly turning red.

She hurled something verbal back at them and they shut up, although they were still grinning.

Mac cocked his head to one side. This was a rare event, as Mac was always sure of everything, but this mystified him.

What were they up to?
